FOTD: Daily Vanity's Beauty Challenge (Day 2)

Continuing with my Daily Vanity's Beauty Challenge (I know it has been a month. Eeps, life got in the way!), this post features the 3 products I used for day 2's au naturale look:

  • Yves Saint Laurent's Forever Light Creator CC Creme (Rose)
  • Maybelline's Hypersharp Liner (Black)
  • Dior Addict's Lip Glow Color Revival Balm

Yves Saint Laurent's Forever Light Creator CC Creme (Rose)
What it is: This is YSL's very first CC cream, which brings flawlessness and radiance to our complexion. It contains the GlycanactifWT™ complex, which visibly corrects uneven skin tone to reveal our individual glow. Our skin's texture looks instantly smoother and the appearances of our pores and imperfections become blurred. It also contains SPF 35 and is suitable for all skin types.

3 shades are available to answer to all skin colour irregularities:

  • Apricot: For a healthy golden glow.
  • Lavender: For a natural bright glow.
  • Rose: For a fresh rosy glow.

What I think: The C.C. cream comes out quite watery and so, glides across the skin easily and sits very comfortably. Coverage is sheer but it illuminates the skin with a rosy, translucent glow. The shade's actually pretty light for me, so I won't actually use it alone but rather as a makeup base. At the end of the day, my usually parched cheeks remain hydrated and my T-zone has its usual 'shine'.

Maybelline's Hypersharp Liner (Black)
What it is: This 0.05mm fine tip liquid liner allows you to draw the most precise line. It is waterproof but removes easily with warm water.

What I think: The only other liquid eyeliner that I use besides my trusty K-Palette 24H Real Lasting Eyeliner (Super Black) is this. In fact, the above is my 2nd or 3rd pen. I love how fine the tip is and it's neither too soft nor too hard, so drawing's a breeze. And because it's so nicely tapered, cat eyes are no longer a hit-or-miss thing. Also, it stays on all day with very minimal, almost non-existent smudging. No flaking either! :D

Dior Addict's Lip Glow Color Revival Balm
What it is:This lip balm is formulated with a colour reviver technology that enhances your natural lip colour, while hydrating it at the same time. It reacts with the chemistry of your lips to give you your very own MLBB shade.

What I think: I reach out for this balm whenever I'm running late and can't decide which lipstick I should wear (I actually love bimbo-tic problems like this, because it's so much less stressful than what life usually hands you. But when you're late, it's just grab, apply and go.). It's hydrates in an instant, stays hydrating and turns the loveliest and most cheery shade of coral pink on me.

REVIEW: Babyliss Pro's Powerlite Dryer

For the past few years, I had been sneaking over to the sibs' bathroom to use their hairdryer. It wasn't because I didn't have one. I did actually, but my bathroom's pretty cramp and it gets really warm when I blow-dry. The sibs have a small and compact Panasonic hairdryer, which takes like 15 minutes for me to get my hair 75% dry. This is actually alright. BUT I'm usually 'late' for my appointments (I usually reach right on the dot, which is very bad. Because strange time-delaying events could have happened on the way.), so I was on the lookout for a salon-worthy hairdryer.

I came across several solid hairdryers, but there are always mixed reviews. Like there's no one hairdryer which has past 50% good reviews. So in the end, I just decided to narrow my selection to something that was pocket-friendly, light and strong, and pray very hard that it wouldn't explode on me. And I found the Babyliss Pro Powerlite Dryer. Here are some of its key features:

  • Weighs only 445g (1/3 lighter than most hair dryers.).
  • Powerful 1900W LHT motor with high torque power.
  • 70% quieter (compared with Babyliss' best-selling AC dryer.).
  • Advanced Ceramics with Tourmaline for high-shine finish.
  • Active Ionic conditioning system for smooth results.
  • 6 heat/speed settings.
  • Slim concentrator nozzle for precision drying.
  • Supplied with UK plug only (230V).

I have been using this for about 3 weeks now and blow-drying has never been more fun! It isn't much heavier than the Panasonic hairdryer, even though it's a lot bigger, and it's sooo 'quiet'. I don't have to worry about waking the sibs up in the mornings anymore, just because selfish me wants to have dry hair. AND I LOVE THE NOZZLE THAT COMES WITH IT because I can blow my hair really straight with it (As straight as it can get anyway, with Aveda's Smooth Infusion™ Glossing Straightener. My hair was straightened back in March, so it has started to curl a little.).

I don't really see the high-shine finish, but I find that my hair remains pretty smooth throughout the day. Frizz is inevitable, but it's visibly less frizzy than before! *squeals* There's really nothing that I don't like about it! :D

So if you are searching for an efficient hairdryer to use at home, you may want to check out Babyliss Pro's Powerlite Dryer. I got mine from BeautyBay.com for £25.04 (Click here to read my haul!).

SPOTTED: 5 Products You Need to Look Almost Korean

So I just finished watching 'My Love from the Star'... The second time. Haha. I am so obsessed with it. I mean, I hardly ever rewatch shows, and this is like my first Korean show since I was 14? The last one was 'Stairway to Heaven', which made me cry so much I swore I wouldn't get into the whole Korean craze. BUT K-dramas have changed so much. They no longer make you weep like you want to die, and seem to have adopted the J-dramas' comical and short-and-sweet style. And I LOVE IT SO DARN MUCH. Btw, I'm also watching the ongoing 'Fated to Love You'. :D

Anyway, this sudden obsession then very naturally transposed itself to the beauty department. This means watching many Korean makeup tutorials (Check out 'Get It Beauty' and 'Pony's Beauty Diary'!) and of course, skincare and makeup hauls (HEH.). One product which I really want to recommend is Skinc's Pure Snow White + Mask. Although the mask isn't from Korea (It's from her neighbour. So that counts too... Right?), it works amazingly awesome to help you achieve the fair and flawless complexion that Koreans are known for. I'm almost done with my first tub, and I have a second one waiting for me in my drawer. As for makeup, the 'watery' and innocent look is in. Think: Flawless, dewy and healthy complexion, well-defined eyes and pink lips.

Though it isn't possible to be one now (Mmhmm.), here are 5 products from ZALORA SG you need to look almost Korean:

HAUL: Getting Some Hair Love from BeautyBay.com

I have been on the lookout for a salon-worthy hairdryer and I found one at BeautyBay.com. And decided to throw in 2 other items into my cart as well. Heh. We have to make full use of the shipping cost right? Except that it's free. Umm... We have to make full use of the effort involved in packing and sending the parcel over? I mean, it's only polite and considerate towards the packers and senders, right? Heh. MOVING ON, here are the items that I got:

  • Babyliss Pro Powerlite Dryer, £25.04
  • Bed Head Dumb Blonde Reconstructor, £7.58
  • Bed Head Straighten Out Straightening Cream, £8.75

Right after I ordered, I decided to google for reviews on BeautyBay.com and gosh, they weren't quite favourable. I got a tad worried because my shipping was under the 'Saver' option; it's free but it's not trackable. But 9 or 10 working days later, my parcel came, yay! :D Everything was packed nicely. The hair dryer came in perfect condition and the bottles weren't leaking.

Will I order from them again? Mmhmm... Yeah, I think I will but it will be my last resort.

SPOTTED: Black Paint x Takashimaya

Yesterday evening, I was in town to get a gift for a friend and decided to pop by Black Paint's booth in Takashimaya. I reviewed 3 of the products back in June and you can read it here. I love how simple and fuss-free the skincare regimen was! And best of all, Black Paint products are natural and made from organic ingredients. They are also free from alcohols, paraffin, synthetic preservatives, fragrances, colourings, ultraviolet absorbers and anti-oxidants. What you apply onto your skin is so important!

The booth will be at Takashimaya's Basement 1, near the aromatherapy shelves, till July 24th (This Thursday!). Do drop by if you are around the area, and especially if you are looking for solutions to battle acne, blackheads, wrinkles and pigmentation. The booth is currently mended by 2 very friendly and cheery girls, who will be more than happy to do a demonstration of this back-to-basics Japanese skincare regimen.

The full Black Paint range consists of 5 products:

  • Black Paint Soap
  • Black Konjac Sponge
  • Best Water
  • Oil Water Rose
  • Water Cream

They make up a quick 4-step skincare regimen, which is perfect for the busy people.

Here's a preview of the demonstration!

Step 1a: Black Paint Soap | Cleanser ($49.90 for 120g)
This pore-cleansing facial soap cleanses pores deeply by playing with our skin's pH. It is slightly alkaline to trigger our naturally acidic skin to release more acid to balance the pH. When this happens, the acid pushes the dirt out from our pores.

This soap just won another year of the highest ranking Monde Selection Award 'GRAND GOLD'. This will be its 6th consecutive year winning this prestigious title!

Step 1b: Black Konjac Sponge| Facial Sponge ($19.90 for 1 piece)
This 100% natural facial sponge enhances absorption ability, while removing excess oil and dead skin cells delicately.

I didn't review this but I have tried other Konjac sponges and they make really gentle exfoliation tools. Do remember to hang them to dry properly so that they last longer!

Step 2: Best Water | Toner ($59.90 for 100ml)
This pore-minimizing toner sinks into our skin deeply for instant hydration and preservation of moisture balance, compensating for the loss of water after cleansing. Overtime, it helps improve our skin texture and minimizes pores.

Step 3: Oil Water Rose | Lotion ($49.90 for 100ml)
This lotion has precious rose oil sitting atop rose water. It regenerates, protects, soothes, and softens our skin, keeping it soft and supple.

I only got to try this at the demonstration. It didn't feel heavy and sank into my skin after a while. Remember to shake the bottle thoroughly to mix the 2 layers before using it! After shaking, it should look milky... Just like the first bottle in the first photo.

Step 4: Water Cream | Moisturizer ($79.90 for 50ml)
This water-based moisturizing cream improves our skin's metabolism and promotes moisture retention. It builds a protective veil against environmental aggressors and anti-oxidants.

-

Anyway, the whole purpose of me blogging at this unearthly hour, is to bring to your attention the really good promotions that Black Paint is having in collaboration with Takashimaya. Read on! :D

If you are getting the Black Paint Soap, do head on over to Black Paint's Facebook page to download an exclusive voucher. It entitles you to a Trial Pack of the 4-step skincare regimen at just $10 (U.P. $90)! It contains

  • Black Paint Soaking Cup 1 piece at $3
  • Black Sponge 1 small piece at $9.90
  • Best Water 50ml at $34.90
  • Facial Paper 1 pack of 10 pieces at $3
  • Oil Water Rose 30ml at $19.90
  • Water Cream Rose Lavender 10g at $19.90

Also, the full set of the Black Paint skincare regimen (Yes, they are all full-sized products!) is going at $129.90, instead of the usual $259! If you do the Math above, you will know that this promotion is really value for money.

I'm actually quite tempted to get it myself. I mean, I LOVE the Water Cream tons, the Best Water wakes me up in the middle of a hot and sticky day and I'm dying to try the Oil Water Rose (Hello, it's rose oil AND water!). HEH. But I have been spending quite a bit (Obsession with pink lips has gone full-blown.). But but I have until Wednesday to think it through carefully. But but BUT work has been insanely busy... I sure hope I am able to make another trip down. :\

Okay, I'm just rambling now. Haha. Before it goes into a stream of deliriousness, I really do encourage everyone to check out the booth and have a feel of the products. The $10 trial kit makes a great introduction and summary of the brand, so don't miss out on the offer! :D

REVIEW: La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Duo[+]

La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Duo[+] provides the most complete skincare to manage acne-prone skin. A reformulation of the holy grail first generation Effaclar Duo, this one works 24 hours to

  • Reduce severe imperfections.
  • Unclog blocked pores.
  • Provide 24h hydration.
  • Correct and prevent marks.

Just like the first generation, this one contains

  • Niacinamide: The reference anti-inflammatory active ingredient for intensive soothing.
  • Piroctone Olamine: To combat bacterial proliferation.
  • LHA and Salicylic Acid: For their complementary keratolytic actions.
  • Targeted Linoleic Acid: To regulate keratinocytes, plus target the follicle.

However, lying at the heart of its formula structure is a brand new addition called Procerad. A pluri-disciplinary genius active ingredient, it is a patented ceramide. It hinders the development of acne blemishes and pigmentation, even before they reach our skin's surface and establish themselves.

The Effaclar Duo[+] takes the form of a lightweight gel-cream, with a fresh and clean scent. I use this primarily at night, about 3 to 4 times a week. This is what I run to when the lack of sleep wrecks havoc on my face. The gel-cream sinks comfortably into the skin, mattifying it almost immediately. My skin's pretty sensitive, so it does sting a little upon application, but it goes away after a while.

I have been using this for close to a month now. Even though this sounds like a pretty aggressive acne-fighter, I like that I wake up to skin that is clear, yet well-hydrated. You know how some acne busters can be so completely over-drying and they kind of aggravate the situation... Well, this doesn't! My blackheads are still ever present (Pain. In. The. Arse.), but I do get less blemishes than usual, even though I haven't been sleeping a lot.

La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Duo[+] is available at Derma Center, major pharmacies like Watsons, Guardian and Unity, and selected hospital pharmacies, at $38.90 for 40ml.

The FIFA World Cup is known to be one of the, if not the, biggest sporting events the world currently knows, bringing together some of the best soccer players from all over. But besides their prowess on the field, these iconic players have some pretty interesting or plain weird quirks behind them too. Here are some of them:

  1. Luis Suarez
Not all hat-tricks are celebrated in the soccer world, as Luis Suarez has come to prove. Seemingly living by the motto "If you can't beat 'em, bite 'em.", Suarez recently completed his hat-trick of bites with Ajax, Liverpool and just a few days ago, Uruguay. Nobody knows for sure the reason behind his weird fetish but what we do know is that the Uruguay star player has been banned for 9 matches, all football activity for four months and fined US$112,000. Way to go Suarez.

  2. Cristiano Ronaldo
The Portuguese team captain and Real Madrid forward is widely known as the world's best player, the world's most expensive player and the player with the ever-changing hairstyles. Well, there could be a good reason for that too. Ronaldo fans are probably familiar with his famously weird pre-game 'rituals', but for those who aren't too familiar, here are a few superstitions the world class player reportedly practices.
    • Ronaldo insists on sitting alone in the back row and he must be the last one to leave the bus.
    • The Portuguese player has to change his hairstyle in the locker room at halftime during every game.
    • In fact, he needs a new hairstyle before every game he plays.
    • He must touch the ball before leaving the dressing room.
    • In the Portugal national team, he is the only Portuguese who is allowed to start off with a long-sleeve jersey.
    • He always steps onto the pitch with his right foot first.

Well, we don't know how true all of the above are, but we know you are going to be looking out for these signs from now on.

  3. Cesc Fabregas
In case you have never watched the "Beats by Dre" commercial, here's how Fabregas, star midfielder of the Spanish national team wishes himself good luck – by kissing a ring given to him by his girlfriend four times.

  4. Kolo Toure
Kolo Toure, a highly valued member of the Ivory Coast national team, always insists on being the last player from his team to walk onto the playing field. This pre-game ritual is so important to Toure that he reportedly once missed the start of the second half of a Champions League Game while waiting for a teammate to precede him.

  5. Iker Casillas
Goalkeeper of the Spanish national team, Iker Casillas is interestingly known to be one of soccer's most superstitious players. He has countless rituals that he modifies depending on the progress of the match, such as changing his jersey every time he concedes a goal or cutting the sleeves off his shirts, etc. His most consistent one would be touching the crossbar every time his team scores. And his most disgusting one? Wearing his socks inside-out during matches. But he has reportedly kicked that habit since 2009. Thank goodness.

REVIEW: ORBIS' Oil Cut Care-na Hot Cool Gel

The nightmare with our pores begins the moment we hit puberty and then, carries on to plague us for the rest of our lives in various ways. They are annoying, we hate them and we want them gone.

Unfortunately for us, just like bad memories, pores are here to stay. There is really no magic which we can use to annihilate them, but we can try and keep them clean as much as possible, so that the nightmare they bring comes in bite-sized proportions.

Here are some of the pore troubles we may encounter as we age:

Age Pore Concerns Characteristics
20s  Sebum Pores Active sebum secretion. When in excess, sebum may clog pores and result in the formation of pimples and dry skin.
30s Mixed Pores Active sebum secretion and pores begin to sag.
40s Sagging Pores Skin's foundation weakens and women see a change in firmness and elasticity of skin. Coupled with gravity's downward pulling force, round pores form a teardrop shape over time.

ORBIS' Oil Cut Care-Na Hot Cool Gel is one product that can help keep our pores clean. This gel contains charcoal powder and 'plays with temperature' for some serious deep cleansing in just 4 steps:

  1. Warming up of skin to soften it.
Upon application of the gel, you skin gradually warms up. The effect is very much like placing a warm towel across your face. Your skin softens and the optimum environment for deep pore cleansing is created.
  2. Deep pore cleansing with Scrub x Charcoal.
The fine beads act like a scrub, cleansing clogged pores and removing dead skin cells. The Charcoal powder, which is sebum-adhesive, absorbs excess sebum and minuscule-sized grime.
  3. Cooling astringents tighten pores.
After a while, the skin starts to cool down and this is when the gel is in its final stage. Witch Hazel contains astringent properties which refresh and tighten pores, minimizing their appearance.
  4. Absorbent x Permeating moisturizing ingredients keep skin hydrated and smooth.
After cleansing, the skin becomes very permeable. Permeative Collagen pushes and plumps skin from within and prevents pores from sagging. Absorbent Hyaluronic Acid moisturizes and rests on the skin's surface to create a rich and full texture.

The gel is free from oils, fragrances and artificial colours, and is formulated to minimize the risk of allergies.

I have been using this gel twice a week, for the past month. After cleansing, I gently massage a pearl-sized amount of the gel on my T-zone area in circular motions, for 10 to 15 seconds. When the gel is first squeezed out from the tube, the fine beads seem a tad too rough. But as I massage the gel into my skin and it warms up, the beads kind of melt away. The warming-up effect really feels like you are steaming your face, though it isn't as 'intensive'. It goes away gradually, and when I wash it off, the cooling effect is so refreshing! It's a perfect way to end the day and a perfect way to start a new one. So yes, I alternate between day and night usage. (:

After washing it off, my skin feels soft and smooth and looks clear and radiant. I don't experience any tightness. There are some days when I'm lazy and skip the moisturizer, but my cheeks don't get dry like they usually do. My blackheads are still very much present though (There is neither an increment nor a reduction.), so I think I need to give this a little more time and probably, sleep a little bit more. Heh.

ORBIS' Oil Cut Care-Na Hot Cool Gel is available at all ORBIS counters and stores, at $21.50 for 60g.

One thing the World Cup always brings to the screens around the world is the adoring, and sometimes crazy, fans. I'm sure you have seen photos of fans decked out entirely in their country's colours, faces painted with the flag, arms raising the team scarf up high.

If you are a football fan, you'll want to make pilgrimage to a major football game – be it during the World Cup or even the league matches. But what should you bring with you to the stadium to make sure that you are 100% ready to cheer your team on? Here are the top 5 things every fan should have with them.

  1. Lozenges
Extremely practical and it may just save your life. Lozenges are a must have when you are screaming yourself hoarse for your team. At the stadium, the cheering never stops, so make sure you are ready for all that action!

  2. Cheer Gear
As the 12th Man, the least a football fan can do at a match is to dress in the team's colours. At the World Cup, fans take things up a notch and things get very, very creative (check this out: http://bzfd.it/1lihtLn). Wear your team colours and bring your cheer gear along. This includes: face paint, team scarves, hats, noise makers, and if you would like, a cute plushie of the team's mascot.

  3. The Right Bag
When you're heading to the games, you'll want a bag that is roomy, but won't get in the way. Plus, the stadium would be littered with spilled drinks and wrappers, so you'll want a bag that you don't mind getting at least a little dirty. There are also restrictions on bags at the World Cup so you may want to consider a sling bag over a backpack.

  4. A Good Camera
At the World Cup, the stadium is huge so your iPhone camera probably won't cut it if you want to get some nice photos of the players and the game. This is where your 15 megapixel camera with a 20x zoom would come in handy!

  5. BRAND'S Sesamin with Schisandra Extract
The party only starts after the match is over when everyone takes it to the nearest pub for some pub grub and drinks. If you're a fan, you definitely can't skip out of the after party. So make sure your body is ready by bringing along a few of this to keep your liver at its best!

REVIEW: Estée Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex II

"The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes,
because that is the doorway to her heart,
the place where love resides."

- Audrey Hepburn

Our eyes apparently give away all our secrets; they are the gateway to our souls. So it is kind of ideal for me to keep them looking bright and youthful all the time. Unfortunately, the area around our eyes is one of the first places where ageing rears its ugly head. Pregnant eye bags, deep lines, darkness (No one goes for the goth look anymore.)... And as I approach a quarter of a century, I can't help but worry slightly. Also, it certainly doesn't help that there are only 24 hours a day, a billion and one things to do, and procrastination is top on my list. :\ So I have been hunting for an eye cream that isn't too rich and that actually works. And I think I may have found it. (:

Estée Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex II launches today, July 8th. It comes in 2 versions; a gel creme and a serum. The gel creme is to be used on its own, while the serum can be layered with other serums and creams. Both tackles the signs of ageing with the exclusive ChronoluxCB™ Technology for a complete and precise night-time treatment. The formula has been tested and proven to reduce lines and wrinkles, smooth, hydrate and strengthen skin and give a younger, radiant and more translucent glow. Basically, it re-ignites the light in our eyes!

I have been using the gel creme version diligently for the past week. It comes with an applicator, with a ball tip. You can use it to apply 3 tiny dots on each cleansed eye area in the morning and at night. Applicators are pretty troublesome to me, so I use my ring finger to apply and massage the creme in gentle circular motions.

The gel creme is a little heavier than I expected, so I use it only at night. Even though it has been just a week of usage, I find that the lines around my eyes, though still there, are less deep. The eye area is well-hydrated and there is a visible brightening effect in the morning, even after I strip my face bare of all skincare products. No irritation or sensitivity was experienced. I'll be including the serum in my morning routine soon and I can't wait to see the results from this combination! (:

Both the gel creme and serum versions of Estée Lauder's Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex II are available at all Estée Lauder counters, at $94 and $100 respectively. Click here to register for a complimentary 5-day trial for the serum. (:
