My First Japan Beauty Haul 最初の日本で買った化粧品

(In an attempt to practise my Japanese more, I'll be translating my blog titles in Japanese. They are probably wrong so please correct me if you happen to know the language. ありがとう！＾＾)

So... This year's theme is 'minimalism' for me and I'm supposed to be on a permanent no-buying-(only-replacing) ban but it was a little challenging to leave Japan's drugstores empty-handed. I mean, have you seen those magical places??? I want to spend hours there like how Belle spends hours in the library. Heh. (I really tried to contain the shopaholic/ hoarder in me and bought only things that I know I will use frequently.)

First up, I got the famous LuLuLun Face Masks in Hokkaido-exclusive flavours, Lavender and Corn. These masks come in a pack of 7 because you're supposed to use them daily. Unfortunately, these contain fragrances so I just got a pack each to try. Since, you know, exclusive. Lol. This special duo set was found in one of the departure area's shops at the New Chitose Airport.

Next, is another pack of daily masks from Loshi Horse Oil. Japan has horse oil products everywhere and it's so difficult to pick because everything is in Japanese (And my Japanese is terrible. :\). But this specific golden one was recommended by someone on Dayre so I got it. If I remembered correctly, she said she had poreless skin the next day. Looking forward to that. :D Beside it is a red packet of Lishan Horse Oil Mask. This was a free gift because Mum bought a box of Lishan Horse Oil. *points below*

As mentioned earlier, Japan has a ton of horse oil products but the Lishan Horse Oil has some kind of an award sticker on it (Not Cosme.) so I asked Mum to get that. I think the more well-known one is the Son Bahyu Horse Oil, which I'm currently using for my lips, but you don't see that everywhere. For those who are curious, you can get the latter from Singapore's Tokyu Hands, at an inflated price. :\

The Flowfushi Mote Liner is another Dayre recommendation (The beauty community there is great!). It comes in black, black brown, brown and navy, the last of which I was really tempted but maintain, inner shopaholic monster. Maintain. I tried the liners in stores and once they dry, they really don't budge. Also, the brushes are thin and firm, which make drawing easy, especially for beginners.

Then, it's another box of masks (Haha.) but this one has a Cosme sticker on it and it took first place in 2016. I came across the Minon Amino Moist Mask on Reddit (Another super great community! In fact, the greatest on the Internet.) and it was in every single drugstore, so yep. Also, apparently, this is meant for dry and sensitive skin a.k.a me. :D

Here, I have 3 acne creams which Candice from The Makeup Box blogged about. Ever since Erycane was discontinued, I have been on the hunt for my Holy Grail zit zapper and hopefully, I find it in one of these. *fingers crossed*

The Shiseido Moilip is yet another recommendation on Dayre. Haha. And it's really, really good for dry weather. My lips were flaking pretty bad in Hokkaido and my favourite DHC lip balm wasn't working (Btw, this is dirt cheap in Japan. Like SGD5 dirt cheap. Wth, Watsons!). But just one night of this potent balm and tadahhh, relief and smoothness. ◡̈ It's a bit much for Singapore though. Not that it's uncomfortable or anything like that, but price-wise, it's a lot more than the DHC one.

Finally, it's a small kawaii bottle of Hyaluronic Acid which I got because there was the Cosme sticker (No. 1 in 2007, which is actually a very long time ago...). You can drop a little of this in shampoos, face lotions, lip balms (?) etc. to boost hydration.

And yep, that's my first Japan beauty haul! Unfortunately, I can't remember the prices but they are mostly below SGD20. I will be using them in the coming weeks so let me know if you have any questions! ◡̈

HAUL: The Final iHerb Haul 2014

Since discovering iHerb early last year, it has been my to-go place for most things. It's where I get my supplements, my ingredients for DIY beauty stuff, my 'healthy' makeup etc. This year's final haul isn't as extensive as last year's, but it's my biggest iHerb one so far (Hauling a lot less now, because I'm in the midst of discovering K-beauty.).

Here's what I got:

• LavAzza's Caffè Espresso: I love coffee as a face and body scrub. It leaves behind the smoothest and healthiest-feeling skin! Be extra gentle when you're using on the face though as the grinds can be pretty coarse! The sister had been providing me with coffee grinds until she decided to make Dublin her home for a year. I tried commercial body scrubs but somehow, they just aren't good enough for me. Haha. This is a new brand that I'm trying out!
• Now Foods' Aloe Vera Gels: I have been taking them every morning for the past year. When I first took them, I felt less lethargic. It's probably psychological but there's no harm in adding them to my diet. Heh.
• Arrowhead Mills' Organic Oat Flour: When I had my rash, I made little oat packs with this. After showering, I soaked a pack in water and basically just rubbed it over the affected areas. It really helped calm the rash. I also used a pack for my face and it was moisturizing, so I'm going to continue with it. I do this after my toner and serum, before my moisturizer.
• Nature Gate's Shine Enhancing Henna Shampoo and Conditioner: I started trying out hair care products from iHerb. Am currently using Avalon Organics, which isn't too bad but I wanted to try other popular brands.
• E.L.F. Cosmetics' Eyeshadow Palettes: Dude, US$15 each.

HAUL: 3CE from StyleNanda

Another brand that I checked out during this Korean craze period is, of course, the very popular 3 Concept Eyes (3CE) by StyleNanda. I ordered the above items directly from the website and if I recall correctly, it took less than a week to arrive. Packaging was fab, none of my items were hurt and a complimentary mini nail polish was also included (Which I completely love and cannot wait till my next order because I. Want. This. Pink. Nail. Polish.).

I had the toughest time picking out the lipstick shades because 3CE has a billion and one variations of the most gorgeous pinks (Just ask Fel! She basically halved my cart.). In the end, I settled on #107 Bad Pink, described as 'a milky hot pink from the lips of Barbie', and #503 Glass Hot Pink, which is a 'bubbly clear hot pink'. Both have blue undertones, so they make our pearlies look whiter. :D

#505 Glass Coral was actually not something that was on my list. I generally steer clear from coral stuff because they can make our teeth appear more yellowish. But this looked so pretty on the model, and I'm a girl, and girls love pretty things so... :\ And it IS pretty. I just need to not show my teeth when I have this on. HAHA. Or alternatively, spam baking soda. Hahaha.

The lipsticks are all very moisturizing (Especially the Glass ones.) and insanely pigmented. For work, I dab them on for a more natural look. They wear off evenly, with the Glass Hot Pink leaving an obvious lip stain that's very pretty.

And here's me again with Cotton Candy hugging my fat cheeks. It's a 'matte, warm pink' that brightens and girlifies your face instantly. I have been using this way too often since I got it. It makes me so happy to see my cheeks so pink. LOL.

Ending off with more narcissistic photos because it was such a good photo-taking day! It's not often that I have the luxury to waste time doing girly stuff like this, with Mother Earth generously pouring superb natural light into my room. Heh.

HAUL: Going Back to Nature with Innisfree

One of the first brands I checked out since getting into the whole Korean craze is Innisfree. It is one of the latest Korean beauty brands to enter Singapore and it is set to take over our little island. I swear. I thought there was only one outlet at Takashimaya. Then I saw it at Plaza Singapura. And just yesterday, I saw it again at Bugis Junction. Please let there be one in the far East!

Anyway, here's a sneak peek of my recent massive haul! I really didn't think I am stressed at work, but maybe I seriously am*? Or perhaps, I'm just being my typical obsessive self. *shrugs* Whatever it is, I'm so happy with my buys that I'm going to hole myself up in my room, not shop anymore and go through the products one by one. :D

Seriously, my complexion has never been this clear since I started working! #koreanskinplease And I'm ending every sentence with exclamation marks again, but can you tell how excited I am?!? :DDD

HAUL: Getting Some Hair Love from BeautyBay.com

I have been on the lookout for a salon-worthy hairdryer and I found one at BeautyBay.com. And decided to throw in 2 other items into my cart as well. Heh. We have to make full use of the shipping cost right? Except that it's free. Umm... We have to make full use of the effort involved in packing and sending the parcel over? I mean, it's only polite and considerate towards the packers and senders, right? Heh. MOVING ON, here are the items that I got:

Right after I ordered, I decided to google for reviews on BeautyBay.com and gosh, they weren't quite favourable. I got a tad worried because my shipping was under the 'Saver' option; it's free but it's not trackable. But 9 or 10 working days later, my parcel came, yay! :D Everything was packed nicely. The hair dryer came in perfect condition and the bottles weren't leaking.

Will I order from them again? Mmhmm... Yeah, I think I will but it will be my last resort.

HAUL: The Final iHerb Haul 2013

If I were a bee, iHerb would be my honey. If I were a moth, iHerb would be my light. If I were a magpie, iHerb would be my shiny thing... You get the picture. I mean, iHerb is online shopping and grocery shopping combined, and that is basically my biggest, unhealthiest addiction.

This haul marked my 7th and final haul for 2013. It is also my biggest because I threw in some healthy snacks as part of the usual will-only-stick-to-it-for-the-first-few-days New Year resolution of eating clean (So not going to happen. But you know, you still make it your NY resolution because it's a tradition. Haha. And I had Maccas' Breakfast Deluxe this morning. After yoga. HAHAHA.).

Here are the items that I got and a little about them:

1. Arrowhead Mills' Organic Oat Flour: Oats are extremely calming and moisturizing for eczema and heat rashes. I add a little water to this and use it as a face and body exfoliator. The flour is fine enough so it won't choke up your sink.
2. Heritage Products' Aura Glow - Almond: I LOVE almond oil. It's incredibly moisturizing, significantly lightens marks and keeps my skin really clear. I typically use a different brand (Read on!) but a model mentioned this one in an interview so I thought I give it a try.
3. Now Foods' Solutions - Avocado Oil: Recently, I came across an article about avocado oil and how it can get rid of blackheads. I have been using this for a week or so. My complexion has been pretty okay (It's the time of the month.) but I haven't seen any reduction in the number of blackheads. :\ BUT I haven't been sleeping very well so maybe that's why. Meh. :\
4. Now Foods' Solution - Sweet Almond Oil: This is my 3rd bottle! BUY IT!
5. Stridex's Single-Step Acne Control - Maximum (Alcohol Free): JH has been using this, in place of Paula's Choice's BHA. He mentioned that it worked just as well and he has really good and clear complexion, despite sleeping weird hours (Life of an architect.). I got this for the sister.
6. Stridex's Single-Step Acne Control - Sensitive (Alcohol Free): This is for me!
7. Thayers' Lemon Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula: Thayers' has been my toner for a large part of 2013. It's huge, cheap and does the whole toning job splendidly.
8. Bare Fruit' Organic Bake-Dried Mango Chunks: Just because it's mango. Huge obsession with mango sticky rice now. I know, so NOT healthy.
9. Danielle Chips' Royal Sweet Potato Chips: I ate these last week. You can skip them, unless you just love hearing things go crunch-crunch in your mouth. They were pretty bland.
10. Now Foods' Crystallized Ginger Slices: Currently just sitting on the shelf because I'm too afraid to eat them. :\
11. Thayers' Two Trees Slippery Elm Lozenges - Pure Maple Sugar: I really ordered these just because they are from Thayers' but man, are these awesome! You know how some nights you wake up and your throat's all dry and itchy. So you swallow repeatedly and then it starts to hurt? I usually take Sanjin Watermelon Frost Lozenges but I ran out of them so I tried these, completely NOT expecting them to work. BUT they did! And without leaving any sappy Chinese herbal taste!
12. Yummy Earth Organics' Gummy Bears: They are GUMMY BEARS. Everyone needs them.

HAUL: Shopping for My Essentials at iHerb.com

I ABSOLUTELY love shopping at iHerb! I mean, I love spending hours in the grocery stores, just looking at rows and columns of food, supplements, skincare products (But of course!) yada yada (Makings of a splendid housewife... Who can't cook. Aye, soon soon!). And if I can do all that without needing to leave the house and suffer from Singapore's insufferable heat, oh my gawd. I believe I'm in almost-heaven.

This is my 4th purchase from iHerb and I got 4 friggin' huge-ass bottles of Thayers (I friggin' love Thayers btw! Thank you, JH, for the recommendation! xx), more Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman's brushes and 2 tubes of Now Foods Solutions's toothpaste gel (Yes, I get my toothpaste online too.). Delivery was by Singpost (Yes, Singpost!) and I think I got my package after a week it was shipped out or just a day or two more.

HAUL: Shiseido's Private Sale 2013

Every sale is a mental and physical battle for me (And for many others, I believe.). Attending this year's Shiseido Private Sale was definitely not on my agenda for this very busy week. But after reading Sophia's haul post here, I couldn't help but think about all that I was missing out. I mean, c'mon! There's NARS!!!

A quick text was sent to Kim and I found out that she and Jo were making their way down but still, I dithered. I spent the night weighing the good and the bad with M (I know, our conversations are incredibly exciting.), whilst battling Math questions.

Morning came and quite frankly, like the beauty junkie that I wasam, I barely slept. My head was wrapped around Math, getting As and embarrassingly, makeup. Actually, a large part of my thoughts were preoccupied with makeup. I mean, c'mon! There's NARS!

After pulling myself out of my poor slumber, I stayed on my bed for the longest time, hoping time will pass so quickly that it would be way past 10am and the queue would be as long as a dragon's tail. Unfortunately, the gods love to tease us human beings. In a mere 20 minutes, I found myself out of the house, cursing the local train system and on my way to meet Kim and Jo. And... And then, the rest is history.

Regretfully and guiltily, I present you my horridly-not-so-humble loot.

And it doesn't just end here. I got myself Tsubaki hair products as well, which are completely justified buys because I have been using the brand since I was in junior college. *nods* For those who are interested, the sale carries on today, until 8pm. The items are periodically restocked but there's no telling what and when.

HAUL: Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizers SPF 20 (Oil-free) and Loose Setting Powder

I think it was two weeks back that Sephora held their very-rare 20% off member sale. I battled all temptations in the last one but this time round... Sigh. The mind is willing but the body is weak. Yeah righttt. Ah well... Money that is spent IS spent so yay, let's just celebrate our hauls! :D

I took the opportunity to get Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizers in Porcelain and Nude. I'm in-between the two shades and since there was 20% off, I was like what the hell... *GRABS BOTH*.

Hazel mentioned in a comment that Laura Mercier's Loose Setting Powder works for her so again, since there was 20% off, I decided to give it a go too. Heh.

I can't wait to try the products out and hopefully, they will make another appearance here, with favourable reviews. Fingers crossed that they will work for me!

HAUL: From Vitacost and iHerb

I have been waiting for, like, ever for my parcels to arrive so that I can write them all at one shot. I'm still missing one but I don't think that's going to arrive till I have like 10 grandchildren or something so. Stupid DHL Global Priority Mail!

Anyway, I have been obsessing over Sesame's website, Viva Woman (I swear, if I see her, I would be like how Kenneth was like when he saw Jerry Seinfeld! Yes, I'm very embarrassing for someone so old.)! She writes really well and she does all these great DIY stuff, which are really interesting!

Some of the stuff that Sesame wrote about were oils and homemade masks. Some ingredients are available in Singapore but at exorbitant prices so I decided to get them online instead. The wait isn't too long, as long as you opt for DHL Express. (: Do NOT touch DHL Global Priority Mail, if patience isn't your thing.

And TADAHHH!!! Fresh from the mailbox! Here's what I got from iHerb, which is a website that Sesame ordered several times from. This isn't my first order, which consists of gluten-free oat flour and oils like Jojoba, Avocado and Sweet Almond. It's still lost at sea. BIG SIGH. HAUL: Lovisa

I think the first Lovisa outlet was opened sometime in June. Hailing from Australia, this brand equips the ladies with accessories that are classy and timeless. I love spending time in the store, just looking at the rows and columns of accessories! Here are the under-$10 pieces that I got during the year-end sale!

HAUL: Typo

Back in December, I popped into Typo to get a birthday card for a friend... And umm, well, ended up with some other stuff as well. In my defense, Typo was having a massively crazy sale and it would be a shame to let it pass. I'm helping the economy.

These lovely cards were going at $10 for 3! I used to make my own cards but it was pretty expensive (Fanciful papers usually come in a whole stack and I go crazy in craft stores. I just mentally erased them from my sight.) and time-consuming.

I spotted this frame when I was in Sydney and wanted to get it so badly. But I am SO glad I held out because this was on sale and I paid only a fraction of the original price!

Lastly, this was like 5 bucks. And I got it because it was 5 bucks. Haha. I thought I could use it to hold my little stuff when I go to school for exams.

HAUL: VMV Hypoallergenics' Black Friday Sale

While we don't exactly celebrate Thanksgiving on this side of the world, it is a day that we still take note of because the very next day is... *drum rolls* BLACK FRIDAY, which is just a fanciful word for a-mazing sales. :D

And just a little tidbit here, courtesy of Wikipedia, the term 'Black Friday' was used to describe the 'heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving'. Subsequently, it was used to 'indicate the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or are in the black'. I thought that was interesting. (:

Anyway, I'm sure that, by now, you are completely aware of how obsessive and compulsive I can get when I unearth a new gem (i.e. brand). And this trait of mine is multiplied a million times when that brand happens to hold a sale of some sorts (I'm not very proud of this. *nods solemnly*). So... When I learnt that VMV Hypoallergenics was having some delicious sale on that 'fateful' Friday, all the I-will-only-buy-what-I-need-and-avoid-all-temptations caution was thrown to the wind and I hopped over to the website and proceeded to spend a good 3 hours there, prowling like a starving wolf.

After spending much time (Adding items, throwing them out and then, adding them back into my cart again.), I finally clicked the 'Checkout' button with an expenditure of US$172.19, one of my craziest damage (Which I do NOT regret! Though I have sworn off buying anything related to beauty. Till the year ends.) this year. And within 4 days, I got my parcel (Christmas is here!)! :DDD

If you do the Math, US$172.19 for 6 VMV Hypoallergenic items works out to be about US$28.70 per item and that is a such a steal, if you have seen the prices in store (Just one right now, on our little sunny island.). Hence, my purchase is completely justified. Haha. But anyway, enough rambling and meet my loot. :D

Id Sweat Acne and Overall Anti-bacterial Monolaurin Gel
This is one of the many star products of VMV Hypoallergenics. It mattifies and kill acne AND sweat acne with its skin-safe and coconut-derived ingredient, Monoglyceride. What really got my eyes widening is the fact that this gel also addresses acne that is caused by the sweat fungus. Overall, this is, quote, an impressive overall, broad-spectrum topical anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-protozoal treatment. Pretty amazing, aye? I have started using my sample of this and gee, I'm really falling in love!

SuperSkin-Starts-Here Set: Hydra Balance for Combination Skin
The next 3 little ones provide a summary of the Hydra Balance Regimen for Combination Skin. This simple regimen 'enhances your combination skin's moisture balance, providing richer hydration or shine reduction where needed'. It also 'effectively targets occasional acne, dryness and hypersensitivity'. The cleanser and moisturizer were featured in October's Vanity Trove (Click here to read.).

Armada Face Cover 45
Another star product, this is for those who aren't exactly sun-loving and just need a medium-weight cream to protect them from any infiltrating evil rays. This little tube may look nondescript but man, it gives you the most comprehensive protection against melasma, sun-induced skin cancer, photo-aging, and other photo-induced damage; indoor and outdoor UVA, UVB, Infrared and Visible Light, it's going to be your superhero.

Armada Baby 50+
This little round tub is a pure physical (Inorganic.) sunscreen of coconut-derived Monolaurin (Anti-bacterial.) and Green Tea (Antioxidants.). Again, it provides protection against UVA, UVB, Infrared + Visible Light from the sun as well as indoor light + heat sources. Free from PABA, phthalates, parabens, preservatives, dyes, allergens, fragrances, this is perfect for our little ones and for those with hypersensitive skins.

Grandma Minnie's The Big, Brave Boo-Boo Balm
This is a tub that contains Monolaurin for ouch-less antibacterial treatment of skin woes, such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, herpes, wounds, cuts, grazes, insect bites, minor burns etc. I got this because lately, I have been getting lots of little grazes with unknown origins.

Antioxidant 2-Way Powder Foundation
This is actually the first item that I wanted to get from VMV Hypoallergenics. Unfortunately, this hasn't made its way to Singapore yet so I got the Illuminants Brilliant Finish (SPF) 25 Powder Foundation instead (Click here to read my first impression of it.). While I'm enjoying the latter, one never forgets her first love so this was the first item that I added to my cart (And did not remove throughout the 3-hour hem-ing and haw-ing.). I'm a little sad that this doesn't contain any SPF but I have the Armada Face Cover 45 to make up for that. So yay! I can't wait to use this!

I guess because it was Black Friday and items were just leaping off the site, I didn't see the option for samples anywhere and just went ahead with my purchase. So it was a real pleasant surprise to see 3 samples packed neatly for me in my parcel (I told you Christmas is here already!). :D

And here ends my not-so-humble haul from VMV Hypoallergenics. Shopping at online VMV Hypoallergenics was an absolute joy with the easy-to-navigate site layout and fuss-free transaction.
