RAMBLINGS: 'Tis the Season to be Jolly

Hello! It has been a while. Heh. I really had planned to blog more this holiday but... Life happened? Haha. I visited the National Gallery (Twice, but I do not get art.), spent a lot of time in theatres, Yoga-ed pretty hard (Or so I'd like to think.), hung out with friends, lay in bed and Plex-ed and Netflix-ed (Must watch: Jessica Jones, Gravity Falls and Bob's Burgers.), tried to read/ write/ doodle, travelled (To only the 2nd best city in the world, Bangkok!)... It has been productive, slacking-wise. Haha. Heh.

Tomorrow's Christmas! I hope you've got all your Christmas prep ready. (: Especially the presents! I have so much fun picking them out for family, friends... And for myself, soon. Heh. You know, just a small treat for a pretty good year. *grins* I'm still looking for something that I really want and in the midst of it, I came across Picodi. It's a local website which has promotional coupon codes for shopping, travelling and a whole lot more, which is great. Savings are great! #beentryingtosavesince2002

I promise to blog a lot more in 2016 but till then, I hope you have a good Christmas and that the coming year will bring you barrels of laughter and many hugs of love. (:

SPOTTED: Christmas Watchin' with Zalora

Michael Kors is one of my few favourite luxury brands. I like that it is feminine, but not TOO feminine, classy and sporty chic *points to gorgeous, sleek black timepiece below and hyperventilates*.

For the history enthusiasts, Michael Kors was founded back in 1981 in New York City by Michael Kors himself. His mother was a model and that played a part in him developing a penchant for fashion from a very young age (He helped design her wedding dress at the age of 5!). He started designing and selling his clothes from his parents' basement and subsequently, had his very own space at a boutique from Bergdorf Goodman on 57th Street. There, he was discovered by Bergdorf's fashion director, Dawn Mello, and that led to the establishment of his very own brand. Some hiccups followed after that, but Kors managed to pick himself up and now, Michael Kors has a whole range of men's and women's wear, footwear, accessories, jewellery, fragrances and of course, watches.

I wear my watch everyday and without it, I feel 'naked' or like, a part of me is missing. If you or your special someone feels the same way, why not get a watch this Christmas?

Here are my 4 favourite picks!

  • Runway MK3247 Watch or also known as 'The Rose-gold Beauty'
This classic, elegant beauty will have you in knots with its stunning face, trimmed with sparking pave stones.
  • Runway MK5191 Watch or also known as 'The Black Beauty'
This sleek black and gold watch will make you the envy of every crowd.
  • Parker MK2249 Watch or also known as 'The Vintage Beauty'
This vintage timepiece brings you back to timeless sophistication with its sparkling pave stones and leather combination.
  • Slim Runway MK3275 Watch or also known as 'The Old Hollywood Beauty'
This classy and dainty minimalist adds a subtle glamorous finish to any look.

Aforarcade jumpsuit

Jumpsuits are rather annoying when it comes to the loo, but some are incredibly classy and can visually lend some height. Haha. I save this pretty monochrome number for special events and days when I want to look a little more dressed up but still remain comfy. #lifeneartheequator #comfortiskey

REVIEW: The BlackBox Exclusive Pack - The Beautiful Truth

"Never love anybody who treats you like you're ordinary."
-Oscar Wilde

For their latest Exclusive Pack, BlackBox is going all out for our skin with some really premium beauty products. The Beautiful Truth pack contains

  • SOTHYS Sensitive Discovery Kit
This little travel-sized kit covers all your skincare needs. First, we have the Micellar Cleansing Water which sensitive skin will love. It removes makeup and impurities easily and quickly. Perfect for lazy days or when we can't wait to hop into bed. The best thing about this? No rinsing needed! Second, comes the Soothing SOS Serum, which is going to be our skin's guardian angel. It instantly soothes discomfort and reduces redness. This is great for skin that is dehydrated. Third, the Soothing Melting Fluid makes the perfect daily protection for our skin against external aggressors. Sensitive, combination skin will find much comfort in this. Fourth, the Nutri-soothing Mask ends our little regimen nicely with a quick emergency care to provide immediate relief for any discomfort and to maintain the balance of sensitive skin.

  • d'Skin UV Defense
This sunscreen provides protection against 99.6% of UVA and UVB rays that are harmful to our skin. It is also formulated with Ascorbyl Glucoside, which helps to reduce the production of melanin and lighten existing melanin. Other ingredients include roots extract of Scutellaria Baicalensis, Arnica Montana Flower, Paeonia Suffruticosa and Daucus Carota Sativa. These help to nourish dehydrated skin and prevent skin from premature ageing.

  • ITOH Japan Crystal Collagen 5300
As we are all well aware of, we are what we eat and a collagen a day will mean that we keep ageing at bay. This Japanese beauty drink contains a blend of 7 revitalizing ingredients; 5,300mg of Micro-collagen Peptides for skin elasticity and firmness, Vitamin C for antioxidant action, Hyaluronic Acid for moisture boost, Kiwi Seed Extract to repair damaged cells and reduce inflammation, Shell Ginger Leaf to increase collagen production, Pomegranate Flower Extract for its anti-ageing properties and Soy Isoflavone for stronger bones. It helps to tackle signs of ageing, restore our skin's radiance and takes us a step closer to younger, crystal clear and supple-looking skin.

Here are my thoughts on them! (:

SOTHYS is a brand which I got acquainted with when I was a lot younger (Heh.). I had a lip balm from them and it was great at keeping my lips all moisturized and soft. So I was really quite excited to break open this SOTHYS Sensitive Discovery Kit, which is so compatible for sensitive me. The whole regimen doesn't irritate my skin and works great at keeping it clean and well-moisturized. My favourite item is the Micellar Cleansing Water. It is light, refreshing and removes my light everyday makeup easily with a few swipes!

Made in Japan, the liquid, cream-coloured d'Skin UV Defence comes in a small 40ml bottle that fits nicely into any bag. It can be used alone or after moisturizer. I quite enjoy this sunscreen because it smells pleasant, is incredibly lightweight, spreads easily across the skin and sinks in quickly. I usually dust on powder foundation right after applying this and it doesn't cause any caking.

ITOH Japan Crystal Collagen 5300 comes in a box of 16 500ml bottles and there are 2 regimens you can follow; for some intensive anti-ageing, take one bottle a day or if you're just looking for some maintenance, 1 bottle every other day will do fine. It is best consumed before breakfast or before sleep, chilled and well-shaken. Collagen drinks take a while to work so I can't quite comment on the effects. But this white peach-flavoured supplement is one of the more pleasant collagen drinks I have drunk. It's quite sweet, but it's not very sour (I cannot do sour.). It's not quite handy to bring around because it's in a glass bottle, but if you make it a habit to drink it at the start or at the end of the day, then it's very convenient. (:

Here's a recent photo after trying out the Beautiful Truth Pack!

REVIEW: Benefit's Lollibalm

I love lip and cheek stains. They are simple to use, completely natural looking and make it seem like you're flushing with radiance from within. Unfortunately, I can only use them on my cheeks because my lips are rather dry. And we all know that stains and dry lips do not make a pretty sight. So anyway, when Benefit came up with lip balm versions of their famous Cheek & Lip Stains, I just HAD to buy them. All 4 (This is said with pride and no shame at all. Haha. Heh. I don't spend as much as I used to now. So it's all good. Heh. #tryingreallyhardtobeanadult) and Lollibalm *points above* is my favourite out of the lot.

Described as a candy-orchid tinted kiss of sheer, buildable colour, this comes with mango butter and sodium hyaluronate to give you the softest and most luscious lips. Truthfully, this is a really expensive lip balm that doesn't even come with SPF. But I love the colour so much that I would buy it over and over again. *starts singing Nelly's 'Over and Over'* It brightens up my complexion even when I haven't got much makeup on, isn't the least bit sticky and just looks so, so pretty. Permanent resident in my makeup bag!

LOOKBOOK: The Formal Baseball Tee

Forever 21 tee
-

I love stripes. Whether they are vertical, horizontal or diagonal, I love them all. They are simple, classy and looks more 'mature' than polka dots (Which I also love, but at a much lower magnitude.). This tee reminds me of a baseball jersey, but one that looks less like PJs. Heh. Anyway, just so you know, shopping online at F21 has been made a lot easier and cheaper (Lower shipping fees!) with 65daigou. I'm still waiting for my parcel but a post will be up soon! :D

And oh yay, my first lookbook since I had my hair chopped off (and for this year too.)!

REVIEW: Clinique's Pop Lip Colour + Primer

Clinique's Pop Lip Colour + Primer is, just as its name suggests, a lipstick and primer combined into one. It is formulated with Shea and Murumuru butters to smooth and provide maximum hydration to your lips. Flexible polymers are also added to help keep the wearable colours vivid and vibrant throughout the day. There are 13 shades available in Singapore and they are neatly categorized into Nudes, Tawnies, Pinks and Violets.

Made in Belgium, the lipsticks come in simple yet classy-looking rectangular tubes. The caps are reflective so you can check on your lips any time you want discreetly. A tad heavy, but really useful and handy!

12 Fab Pop

04 Beige Pop

12 Fab Pop is a lavender pink with a demi-matte finish. When layered on, it's really pale which will look good with heavy eye makeup. But if I am just wearing very light foundation *points above*, then I prefer dabbing this on so that the natural redness of my lips peeks through, and I don't look so washed out.

04 Beige Pop is a pinkish beige and can be a good MLBB lipstick. For me, again, I think that this would look better with heavier makeup. Maybe because I'm so used to darker lip colours. Really should have gone all out with my eye shadows and liners here. Mmhmm.

But shades aside, these lipsticks are really moisturizing and they apply smoothly even when I don't have any lip balm on. They sit comfortably and the colours last for quite a while. (: Do check out the other colours like 01 Nude Pop, 06 Poppy Pop and 13 Love Pop!

Clinique's Pop Lip Colour + Primer retails for $33 and is available at all Clinique counters and on Luxola.

SPOTTED: 5 Stylish Ways to Wear Your Kimono Top

If you break up the characters for 'kimono (着物)', it literally means a thing to wear. Traditionally, it comes in a long T-shaped robe with wide sleeves. The Japanese wear it for special occasions like weddings and tea ceremonies and they look very elegant and proper in it.

As a child, I have always wanted one ever since I saw Hello Kitty in a pink floral piece. Unfortunately, the real McCoy is really expensive and not quite practical in warm and sunny Singapore. Also, I really want to get mine in Japan but that's not happening anytime soon. I made a resolution to visit the Land of the Rising Sun only when I can converse in their language decently... Which is going to take a very long time. Heh. (Btw, I passed my N5 exam, yay! ٩(^ᴗ^)۶ )

Anyway, thank goodness for the creative designers who did a modern take on it and came up with the pretty and more wearable kimono tops. And they come in every possible colour and variation; floral, boho-chic, lace, fringe, chambray, chiffon etc. There's basically a perfect one for every outfit. But how does one actually wear it? Given that it's usually over-sized, one can end up looking a tad sloppy. Eeps!

Here are 5 stylish ways to wear your kimono top:

  1. Glam up your tank top and jeans combo with a patterned kimono. A chiffon one will flaunt your silhouette.
  2. Throw on a flower headband and wear a fringe kimono for the boho-chic look. Perfect outfit for a sunny Sunday afternoon.
  3. Seek warmth stylishly with a long kimono over your dress. Don't be afraid to go print-on-print!
  4. Add some shape to your kimono by belting it up. Go for a simple plain one that doesn't draw attention away from your pretty kimono prints.
  5. Jazz up your little black dress by draping on a floral or lace kimono à la Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City.

EMPTIES: July's goodbyes

Honeycé's Moisture Repair Shampoo
What it is: Made in Japan, this shampoo contains 8 different types of honey sourced from all over the world (Manuka Honey, Raspberry Honey, Clover Honey, Rosemary Honey, Orange Honey, Lemon Honey, Acacia Honey and Blueberry Honey), organic oils (Argan Oil and Jojoba Oil) and Keratin to repair hair damage.

What I think: My hair has returned to its original state - big, poofy and frizzy. This shampoo kept my hair cleaned, smelled pretty nice and was decently moisturizing. There wasn't really a need to follow up with a conditioner.

Now Foods Solutions' Avocado Oil
What I think: I was trying to save my Innisfree makeup remover when I decided to break into this. And it did such a splendid job of removing every hint of makeup. Even my stubborn-for-very-good-reasons Japanese mascara conceded. *victory sign* Also, it left my skin looking really clear after each wash. Favourite makeup remover from here on.

Phyto's Phyto 9 Ultra-Dry Hair Nourishing Day Cream With 9 Plants
What it is: This lightweight leave-in conditioner is formulated with 9 plant extracts to hydrate, smooth and protect medium-to-coarse, dry hair from environmental stressors and split ends. It is free from sulfates and phthalates.

What I think: I bought this because Fel said that this made her hair super smooth and she couldn't stop touching it when we were out. Umm... I thought it was only okay for me. Hahaha. It was just like any other leave-in conditioner and didn't leave any significant impression. I like that it was pretty light though.

Salcura's DermaSpray (Intensive)
What it is: This everyday moisturizing spray is made for those who are prone to eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, rosacea and dry skin. It is 98% natural, contains no steroids or harsh chemicals and nourishes the skin, while effectively breaking the itch-scratch cycle. It is formulated with Sea Buckthorn for nourishment and cell regeneration, Lavender to calm and balance and Rosemary for its for its ability to support collagen development and eliminate free radicals.

What I think: I apply this whenever I get really stressed and the eczema on my back flares up. It really helps to reduce the itch and I am so in love with the minty, Eucalyptus scent. Heh. But I don't think this is very moisturizing so I do still apply moisturizer. Also, the spray nozzle on my bottle is faulty. :\ But yes, I will buy this again and again. Until my eczema goes away. And we all know that it won't. Ever. Big sigh. So thank you, for this. :D

Phyto's Phytolisse Ultra-Glossing Finishing Serum
What it is: A finishing serum that instantly calms flyway and tames frizz so that hair looks sleek, smooth and healthy, with a sublime shine. It is free from sulfates and parabens.

What I think: Again, this was only okay for me. Hahaha. I really like Phyto's shampoos and conditioners, but somehow their leave-ins don't really work for me. This is lightweight though, but it didn't really tame my frizz. #toounrulyforya

Innisfree's Apple Juicy Emulsion Lip & Eye Remover
What I think: I LOVE(d) this so much when I first used a sample of it. It removed my eye makeup so cleanly that I promptly ordered the full-sized bottle online. Only to find out that our local stores sell them cheaper (Whut whut. Ikr. Do your research.). I still love this but I love my Avocado Oil more *points above*, just because that's natural and this, well, isn't. But yes, Innisfree has some really awesome products.

Bioderma Sensibio Mask
What it is: This soft and creamy mask moisturizes and soothes intensely, provides lasting comfort, restores skin's radiance and guarantees optimum tolerance.

What I think: This mask actually stung a little whenever I had it on, so I won't repurchase it. But it did moisturize my skin very nicely and left it feeling smooth like tofu.

A'Pieu Essential Source Snail Cream
What I think: I bought this because it's a favourite of Alice from W2Beauty. I really like the gel texture but it didn't work for me. My skin still felt dry when I had this on. :\ And it was quite expensive...

Escada's Especially Escada and Especially Escada Elixir
What I think: These scents are my absolute favourites. I really like the light rose notes in them and they smell feminine without being overpowering. Will totally make this MY scent when I finish my current stash.

RAMBLINGS: 26 and still discovering.

"Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration's shove or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It's all about paying attention. Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. Stay eager."
- Susan Sontag

For a long time now, I have been feeling 'lost'.

-

I just wrote and backspaced an entire chunk explaining why. I have thought about it way too much and for way too long. So instead of retracing my steps again and again as time slips by, I'm going to actually get cracking and start taking new ones.

Also, it's time to start colouring outside the lines now.

REVIEW: ZO Skin Health's Offects Exfoliating Polish

This year, I have been plagued with a serious case of blackheads. It could have been because of all my late nights but I had also been wearing a lot of BB creams. And apparently, liquid sunscreens and anything that contains them can clog pores for some people too. 'Tragically', I'm one of those 'some people'. I do still sneak on some of my beloved Dr. Jart+ and Missha (When I want to feel suuuper 'pretty'.), but on most days, I'm a gel-sunscreen-powder-foundi kinda girl. Anyway, to wage a war with all those pesky blackheads, I got the ZO Skin Health's Offects Exfoliating Polish from Trinity Medical Centre (Marine Parade).

Formulated for all skin types, ZO Skin Health's Offects Exfoliating Polish contains ultra-fine magnesium crystals that exfoliates dead skin cells, increases cell turnover, improves skin texture and promotes healthy circulation. Vitamins A, C, E and C-Esters are also added to provide antioxidant benefits to help strengthen the skin barrier function.

For the past few months, I have been using this sporadically because it's really expensive, I really like it and am trying very hard to prolong the little tub that I have. Haha. Heh.

After cleansing, I scoop out a pea-sized amount and apply it onto my face in gentle, circular motions. My skin feels like it's being cleaned thoroughly but because the scrub's so fine, it's such a comfortable experience. My sensitive face doesn't go the least bit red! After washing it off, my skin looks clear, isn't dry and feels crazy soft. I slather on moisturizer after that (Maybe, some lotion or serum first, if I feel like it. I'm really quite irregular with the in-betweens. :\) and it seems to sink in a lot easier and faster than when I don't use the scrub. Also, this smells like clean ocean. *blissful look*

The biggest reason why I'm in love with this is that I have a lot less blackheads now. My nose is still a breeding ground for them (Just as it has been for the past 103428035 years.), but the blackheads are less prominent. And previously, I was having a lot of blackheads on my forehead which I didn't use to have before. They aren't gone completely, but I'm happy to report that there's a visible reduction now. :DDD

REVIEW: Clinique's 3-Step Skin Care System

When I was 12, I was already eyeing the mother's beauty stash. Among the many different, pretty bottles that she had, there was one that stood out so much because it was so pale-yellow and squarish. It was, of course, the famous Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +, which the mother explained was her very favourite. Ever since then, Clinique has been on my beauty radar. So much love for the Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector!

Clinique is well-known for its 3-Step Skin Care System and recently, I had the opportunity to try it out. Thanks Luxola! This simple, fuss-free and effective system is clinically-formulated and forms the foundation of Clinique's skin care. The brand's visionary dermatologist, Dr. Norman Orentreich, believes that 'great skin can be created' with a simple skin care regimen that involves cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing

Meant to be used twice a day, this system consists of the following steps:

  • Step 1: Cleanse with the Liquid Facial Soap
This soap comes in 3 types - extra mild, mild and extra-strength - and leaves skin feeling fresh and clean, but never taut.
  • Step 2: Exfoliate with the Clarifying Lotion
This lotion is also known as the 'Difference Maker' because it speeds up skin cell turnover for maximum brilliance and clarity.
  • Step 3: Replenish with the Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +
Moisture is the secret to healthy, clear skin. This comes in both lotion and gel forms to meet the needs of every skin type and add moisture wherever and whenever it is needed.

My skin has always been sensitive and now that I am way into adulthood, it has also become more of a 'combination skin type' - cheeks as dry as the Sahara desert and T-zone, shiny like a disco ball. And whenever I sleep poorly, my cheeks get so parched that lines become really obvious. Hence, having the right cleanser, one that doesn't leave skin feeling tight and uncomfortable, is really important to me. And that is why the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap made it to my very short and exclusive list of favourite cleansers. It cleans without stripping off all the natural oil, and leaves my skin comfortable and adequately moisturized after each wash.

Truth be told, before this, I hardly used toners. I have them, but I just don't use them regularly. Like I would be very diligent for the first 5 days and then, after that, it would be like once in a month... Or three months? Haha. But I do like how refreshing the Clinique Clarifying Lotion makes my skin feel. I like to use it as a perk-me-up in the middle of the day, especially on my T-zone when it starts shining bright like a diamond. Again, it doesn't leave my skin feeling dry so two thumbs up!

Last but not least, the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion +. I have actually tried this 2 years back, when it underwent its first reformulation. Back then, my skin was leaning towards the oily side and didn't take too well to it. BUT now that I have (slightly) more mature skin, it is just drinking this up. Especially my cheeks. I wake up to cheeks that feel plump with health and my skin looks more awake than ever. And because it sinks into my skin so easily and provides enough moisture, makeup sits on my skin very comfortably.

Clinique's 3-Step Skin Care System is available on Luxola and from now till August 15th, key in BLX-CHARLENEJ to enjoy 15% off all first time orders. I hope this post has been helpful! (:

日本ラブ: Japanese Beauty Products

If I get obsessed with something and there's a beauty part to it, you can bet that the massive beauty junkie in me will spend hours googling it. Hence, it's completely natural that I started hauling Japanese beauty products again. Am so glad that the Great Singapore Sale is here now and has even been made available online. Away from the heat, away from the crowds... That's what I like. And also, GSS means that in the virtual world, there are these awesome coupons and deals for almost everything under the sun. Cannot. Wait. For. Pay. To. Come. In.

And... I digressed. Heh. Anyway, Japanese beauty products always pride themselves on using the very best of everything - quality, technology, knowledge etc. So I feel very safe using them. (: But of course, I still monitor my skin when I try a new product.

Here are 3 brands which I really love:

  • Cezanne
I really wish that I had discovered this brand so much earlier, when it was still available in Singapore. I have tried 2 of their powder foundations and I love them so much. They are light, sit comfortably on the skin and give you almost-flawless skin (Prominent blemishes will need some assistance from the concealer.) throughout the day. I now get my 'supply' whenever I go to Bangkok. (:

  • HABA
I tried the 3-Step Skincare System and the White Lady last year, and I really enjoyed the regimen. It was simple, fuss-free and most importantly, free from parabens, fragrances, mineral oils, artificial colourants and petrochemical surfactants. If I ever retire from being a beauty junkie, this is the regimen that's going to follow me for the rest of my life.

  • Hada Labo
This has been a great friend since 2011 and I like the Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion best. It keeps my skin so well-hydrated and clear that I always keep a bottle in my bathroom. Whenever my face feels oily in the day, I splash some water, dry it and pat some of this in.

And 3 brands which I can't wait to explore:

  • Albion
This brand was raved quite a bit previously in the local beauty blogosphere, so I started googling for reviews and if you check the brand's hashtag on Instagram (HAHA. I really love my beauty products.), there are many Japanese ladies who love this as well. Especially the Skin Conditioner. I got a trial set at the Takashimaya counter last December and when there was a sale online, I ordered 3 big bottles of the Skin Conditioner. HAHA. Do I like it that much? Hmmm... It's difficult to say. It's lightweight, makes my skin soft and hydrated, but I'm still not really sure if it's worth the price. Will definitely only buy it when there's a sale.

  • Shiseido
This brand is everywhere. I love their Tsubaki hair care products (Loyal fan since JC days.) and those tiny lip balms, which I got from Taiwan, are the most adorable things ever. I don't know why I haven't tried their skin care products (Actually, I do. I have a whole drawer of untouched products! Heh.). But, soon! Haha.

  • Son Bahyu
I always see Horse Oil when there's the Japanese fair at Isetan Scotts, and I decided to pick a little tub when I saw it at Tokyu Hands. I was hoping that it would help with my eczema, but umm... It works better just as a moisturizer. Heh. Maybe this will work better in the long run? It's supposed to reduce the risk of scarring.

I really shouldn't be asking this, but are there other Japanese beauty brands that you're really into currently? :D

REVIEW: The BlackBox Exclusive Pack - Apex Beauté

This June, BlackBox teamed up with Korean brand, Apex Beauté, to bring you an exclusive pack that will take you a step closer to being K-ready. For the uninitiated, Apex Beauté is the latest K-brand to hit our shores. This beauty brand aims to bring out the elegance and beauty in every women with the best products at affordable prices.

This pack contains

  • Apex Face Loose Powder (#01 Light Beige) $19.90
This silky-smooth powder comes with a soft-focus and skin-perfecting formula that will give you clear, natural-looking skin. It has mica micro-particles that reflect light so that pores seem to disappear instantly.

  • Apex Soft-Feel Eyeshadow (#02 Gold Pearl) $9.90
This long-lasting colour eye shadow is enriched with Vitamin E and ultra-fine pearl to create a shimmery and vivid finish.

The Apex Face Loose Powder (#01 Light Beige) comes with a little puff, but I prefer using a brush. Just because it's more fun. Heh. After foundation, I sweep this all over my face and immediately, my complexion looks smoother and poreless... Almost airbrushed, but still very natural! (: I wore this out for about 5 hours or so, and came home with just a wee bit shine on my T-zone.

One tip which makeup artist Wayne Goss suggests is to apply the loose powder before your foundation. This fills in the pores and so, provides a smooth canvas for your foundation to go on. In this way, you need less foundation and it stays throughout the day!

The Apex Soft-Feel Eyeshadow (#02 Gold Pearl) is soft and pigmented. If you are having a little trouble working with this colour on your eyelids, you can always work with other parts of your face. One way is to dab a little in the centre of a pair of red lips to make your pout fuller. (:

The Apex Beauté Pack (worth $29.80) is available at $15.90 on BlackBox. (Psst! Key in BBXCJ10 for a 10% discount!)

REVIEW: Skinfood's Black Sugar Strawberry Wash-off Mask

I have been enjoying a couple of Skinfood products recently, one of which is the Skinfood's Black Sugar Strawberry Wash-off Mask. I got my tub from Sunnaz because it was on a sale (Just $9.90!), but my love for Skinfood scrubs stretches way back to 2010 (Read my ancient reviews here.).

Skinfood's Black Sugar Strawberry Wash-off Mask is a facial scrub that's made from mineral-rich Brazilian black sugar, strawberry seeds and strawberry seed oil. So it's not surprising that it smells so much like strawberry jam! I always feel a little hungry after using it. Heh. Anyway, I apply this in circular motions after cleansing and drying my face a little, concentrating on my nose and inner cheeks.

The scrub isn't very coarse, so I use it every other day in the shower (Be gentle!). It washes off easily and leaves a slight residue that's comfortable and feels moisturizing. I don't feel it after a while though, so I still apply my moisturizer. On certain days, when I need the extra 'Oomph!' in my skin, I use it like a mask and leave it on for like half an hour. Actually, instructions say to leave this on for 10-15 minutes but umm... Heh. When I'm using this in the shower and so frequently, I just leave it on for 5 minutes. Heh. Probably should make better use of it. :\

If you are looking for a scrub that's gentle enough for sensitive skin, you should check this out! (:

SEWING: She Wears the Pants「気分はマニッシュ」

She Wears the Pants「気分はマニッシュ」is the first English-translated Japanese sewing book that I owned. All my other Japanese sewing books are in well, Japanese, and it's actually quite a challenge to try and 'decode' it. Heh. So it was really with ease when I wanted to pick my next (Japanese) sewing project from this book; I didn't have to worry that I didn't understand a particular term or piece of instruction. Heh.

The book is penned by Yuko Takada and it's meant for ladies who are opting for the boyfriend look. The clothes featured are simple and classy. And even though there are completely no frills, there's still a hint of feminine sophistication - which I really like. (:

There are 20 different projects altogether. At the end of the book, there's also a small section that shows you how to choose and make the patterns, and teaches some basic sewing techniques.

No. 05 Velour Blouse

This piece is a combination of velour and knit - 2 fabrics which I have yet to work with. I really like the sailor-looking collar though, which takes structure from fusible interfacing.

No.06 Square Top and No.07 Fleece Jacket

The square top is an interesting piece - it's basically a long rectangular piece of T-cloth (Google says that this is a plain-woven cotton fabric.) with 2 arm holes. I'll probably try making this during the holidays!

No.12 Draped Mini Dress and No. 14 Semi-flared Culottes

I love, LOVE culottes! This year alone, I have bought 4 and we haven't even hit June. Haha. It's a real pity that I can't wear them to work but anyway, the one above is stitched from corduroy and fusible interfacing.

No.16 Tippets

These tippets are adorable and dress up any outfit in any instant! They do look a tad more challenging though, because of all the curves.

No.18 Dotted Blouse and No.19 Semi-flared Culottes

Culottes again! This is the same pair as the aforementioned one. And a dotted blouse that's made from a fabric with a dotted pattern in 2 different colours.

No.20 Belt Stole

The book ends with a knitted belt that comes together with a big safety pin, which is a little strange but I suppose it can double up as a scarf as well.

The small little section on 'Basic and Techniques'.

The patterns which come in 2 double-sided sheets.

There's a good mix of simple and more challenging projects, and various fabrics are explored. Instructions are succinct but there were some tiny bits which beginner me needed help figuring out.

The patterns for all 20 projects are compiled in just 2 double-sided sheets, which makes tracing the patterns a tad difficult. So I use Pilot Frixion pens (Pictured right above.) to go over the patterns first. These pens' ink goes away with some heat from the hair dryer. (:

No.10 Pompom Blouse

For my 2nd 'major' sewing project, I tried making the Pompom Blouse, without the pompoms. Didn't quite like the idea of having little fluffy balls hanging around my neck. Heh. But I do like the strip of contrasting fabric!

This blouse is a lot simpler than the previous one, so it took a shorter time to complete. The most challenging bit was actually sewing the bottom seam (Haven't erased the chalk marks above!). I must have tried sewing it close to ten times. Haha. And the front neckline sags a little. I think it was meant to cater to the pompoms but because I don't have them, it looks a little strange. Heh. I'm probably gonna make a little fold in the centre or at the side. Still very not perfect but yay, I did it! :D

She Wears the Pants (ISBN No. : 978-4-8053-1326-8) will be available from May 12th onwards here.
