SHOWCASE: L'Oreal HiP Bright Shadow Duo in Showy 224

Last year, I was Kim's plus one at the L’Oreal HiP Bloggers' Party. I decided to whip out the L'Oreal HiP Bright Shadow Duos last week and play with them. My cousin, ZT, had to play the (unfortunate) role of my doll. Heh. Thanks sweets! :D

(from left to right) Showy 224, Flashy 318, Flare 404, Riotous 328, Bustling 864, Platinum 906

I absolutely love the gorgeous colours! My favourites are Showy, Flashy and Riotous. The eyeshadows are of good pigmentation but I do think that a primer is needed in order for the colours to appear exactly as they are in their pans. Also, there is some fallout, especially for Platinum.

For the rest of this week, I will be posting up looks that you can get from these duos and I hope you enjoy them! :D

Showy is made up of a teal and a dark blue. The teal's extremely shimmery and this gives the eyeshadow its dimension. The dark blue's shimmers are more discrete.

Base: Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion
Inner Corner: Teal
Outer Corner: Dark blue
Upper Lash Line: K-Palette's 24H Real Lasting Eyeliner
Lower Lash Line: Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Binge, Urban Decay's 24/7 Heavy Glitter Eyeliner in Spandex
Mascara: -
Browbone Highlighter: Urban Decay's Eyeshadow in Polyester Bride

FOR YOUR 411: Eyeliners

The eyeliner was the first piece of makeup which I owned (Not counting lipglosses.). It was a kohl one from The Body Shop and gawd! For the life of me, I couldn't sharpen it! It kept breaking and breaking and I was so afraid that Mum would scold me for wasting it that I chucked it away and bought a new one (So much for the 'wasting' worry.). Spending that $20 (On my side and $20 on Mum's side.) to a 16 year-old me was very painful. :\ But at the same time, I got to line my eyes real thick and in my opinion, looked like a rock chick. Heh (Remember, I was 16.).

I know a couple of my brother's friends and some of my friends, who just got into makeup, read my blog, so this entry is for you guys! I think that the first step into makeup is on the eyeliner so let's get started! (:

Eyeliners are very versatile tools. From simply defining the eyes to making your eyes look big, dark, dramatic... If someone posed me the proverbial scenario of me being lost on the island and asked about the one makeup that I would want to have, hell yes it's going to be the eyeliner *grins*! But there are different types of eyeliners out there, how do you actually make a choice?

There are basically 3 different types of eyeliners;

Pencil eyeliners,
Gel eyeliners and
Liquid eyeliners.

Each type gives you a different look and it is based on this that you pick the type of eyeliner.

Pencil Eyeliners
You will probably start out with pencil eyeliners. They are the easiest to control and are basically like colour pencils. A good sharpener (Try the German-made Canmake one from Watsons. It's around 8 to 10 bucks, I think.) will get the tips nice and sharp and you can draw your line as thick or as thin as you want it to be.

Pencil eyeliners also come in various colours, so you don't need to stick to the blacks and browns. Urban Decay has gorgeous colours, from electric blue to deep forest green to a rich plum... Name a colour and they probably have got it. I did a review on them and you can read it here. (:

The downside of pencil eyeliners is that they can smudge, especially if you have oily eyelids. In that case, you can apply a primer before you draw on and then, pat an eyeshadow of the same colour after you have drawn on. And if that fails... Look at the other types of eyeliners. (:

Some ideas for pencil eyeliners:

1. For just simple definition of the eyes, draw on the eyeliner where your eyelashes are. A creamy eyeliner will make things a lot easier, in this case (Try Urban Decay's 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils or L'Oreal HiP's Color Chrome Eyeliners.).

2. An even softer look can be achieved by smudging the eyeliner a little with a cotton bud after you have drawn it on.

3. Make things a little exciting by using coloured eyeliners! If you're thinking 'Maybe not...', pair the coloured eyeliner with your black or brown. You can draw on the coloured eyeliner on top of the black or brown, or you can line the top with black or brown and the bottom with a coloured one. Try it and I daresay that you will like the result! :D

When I was promoting eyeliners for a summer job, there were ladies who asked me the difference between using black and brown eyeliners. Black eyeliners usually give a harsher look. But this doesn't equate to fierce or anything like that. Brown eyeliners just appear more natural but then again, it also depends on the shade of brown that you are using. One good shade is the Dark Brown from Maybelline's Unstoppable Smudge Proof Eyeliners collection (Which cost just a little under 10.).

Gel Eyeliners
Gel eyeliners are usually accompanied with brushes (Angled, flat or pencil.). The difficulty level is between that of the pencil and liquid eyeliners. They are much easier than liquid eyeliners because you have more control over the amount of eyeliner and the brush itself.

One mistake which I made when I first started out with my gel eyeliner is that I actually 'scooped' the eyeliner and directly applied to my eyelids. You can imagine the awful mess when I tried to brush it out! Always test it out on the back of your hand first!

Gel eyeliners take a little longer to dry, so you can smudge it out a little for a softer look. The trouble with gel eyeliners are that they aren't exactly practical to bring around. And do remember to wash your brush! You don't want the eyeliner to dry up on it and the whole brush goes stiff!

Save: Maybelline New York's Cream Gel Eyeliner by Eyestudio

Liquid Eyeliners
Precision, sharpness, thinness... If these are what you want, look at liquid eyeliners. (: They are a little hard to handle but really, with practice, they are possible! You will need a steady hand so if you're shaking a little, rest your elbow on a table. (:

Thanks to Math, I can draw curves pretty smooth (I barely touched my curve ruler!)! I start at the inner tip of my eye and draw a line across. For those who are just starting out, you can draw small strokes instead. Start at the middle of your eye and draw towards the end. Then, draw from the inner tip of your eye to the middle. (: The main thing is to not be 'afraid' and practise, practise and practise!

Liquid eyeliners are fabulous for winged-out eyeliners (Think: Taylor Swift.) because you want the tips to be clean and sharp. One tip for the angle of the wing is to use the bottom tip of your eye as a guide. Follow your bottom lash line and draw a small line at the tip of your eye and join it to the top with a smooth curve. (:

HAUL: From Watsons and *Scape's Flea

Yesterday, my sis and I decided to brave both the horrendous sun and the equally horrendous crowd and do some shopping. And gawd! The crowd was the epitome of insanity yesterday (And quite possibly today and for the rest of the Great Singapore Sale period.). We were literally stuck in the underground walkway between Wisma and Takashimaya. :\ I will avoid all underground walkways from now on *nods seriously*.

I headed to Takashimaya's Watsons and bought a couple of 'necessities'. Heh.

I have always loved St. Ives' Apricot Scrub and I found that it worked beautifully with Vichy Normaderm's Deep Cleansing Foaming Cream yesterday so yes, I'm a very happy girl at the moment!

One lovely surprise that I got at the cashier was the above! I don't really know how much you have to spend in order to get this (My expenditure came up to about $27.) but anyway, I had initially thought it was just a cosmetic bag and period. But but but in it came will all these Ginvera samples! Double surprises! :DDD

At the *Scape flea, which was also filled to the brim with humans, there was a booth that sold OPIs for $10 a bottle. I got 'The 'It' Color', 'Big Apple Red' and 'Bubble Bath'. I have been wanting the last 2 colours for ages! The first one... Well, I haven't been able to get Kim's nails out of my head since last Friday. Heh!

Alrighty. Thanks so much for reading and I'll see you again soon! Have a fab Sunday! :D

RAMBLINGS: All over.

Summer seems like it started ten thousand years ago. It's hard to believe that my examinations ended last Thursday, or rather 2 Thursdays ago, depending on which calendar you're following (For the French, the week begins on Monday. And I think for everyone else, it's Sunday. With everyone else being well, not everyone else, I suppose. Heh.).
-

I think it was last weekend when I found out something which I couldn't swallow. I knew it was happening but for it to be happening to people whom you actually care... It really sucks a lot. Present tense, because it's still sucking and I'm feeling all kinds of sad. But life goes on. You do whatever the something is. You sleep. You wake up and get on with life. Indeed, it's just something that people do. But... Sigh. I guess I really am very ancient.
-

Anyway, I have been heading out almost EVERY single day. My bank's bleeding like nuts and it's crazy because I'm not spending on makeup at all. It's all food and transport and well, MORE food. Nuts. I swear I have gone one size up. I can't wear my XS shirts anymore and I'm not upset about the fact that I have gained some weight. It's just that there was once, when I went crazy, and bought a WHOLE lot of XS shirts from American Eagles and it pains me that I can't wear them anymore, unless I want people to see my curve (Yes, just one.) that is my stomach. Oh... Bury me already!
-

The siblings and I have been watching 'Supernatural' and gawd! Half the time, I'm under the covers, with my EYES and ears shut. I couldn't sleep for 2 whole nights, which I think caused several zits to pop up. Yes, first breakout since I was 15 and school wasn't the cause of it. I do believe that I am officially no longer the nerd that I was *cheers*.

Anyway, the brother has left for the UK and one week seems awfully painful. I love my siblings (and Gran, Dad and Mum.) so much. I used to pray that we were all joined together at the hands and when that one passes away, all pass on at the same time. I really want to go overseas to study but I can't imagine leaving any of them.

HAUL: From makeup to books!

On Thursday, I met up with my friend Lennard for a hang and he passed me my CVS goodies!

Almay's Bright Eyes Liner/Highlighter Duo in Chocolate & Shell is quite possibly one of my favourite piece of makeup because it's fabulous for lazy days. I colour my entire eyelid with Shell and line my tightline with Chocolate. Fuss-free and superbly easy!

Maybelline's the Falsies Volume Express was bought because Blair (juicystar07) loves it. Enough said. :D

Jerlene wrote such an awesome review on the Essence of Beauty's Crease Brush Duo that I just HAD to get it! The brushes are really small compared with my E.L.F and Sigma ones and I do think that they are going to be PERFECT for my puny Asian eyes!

The last item's the Milani Tiger Body Bronzer! It is such a MINISCULE pot! When Lennard passed it to me, I was like "HUH?!?". But whatever. It looks like food to me! So YAY!!! (Char, you CANNOT eat this. CANNOT. Not in a million years!)

This is supposed to be a body bronzer but people on MUA use it on the face and that's what I'll be doing. Fingers crossed that I won't break out or anything like that (I have been breaking out and it's completely horrible! The last time I broke out was when I was what? 15?!? Usually, it's just one or two. But at the moment, it's 7! My best friend is also breaking out and she has like perfect complexion. :\ But oh! My best friend has got 7 too. Haha! Total BFF!!!).

Anyway, the loot cost me about 48 bucks (I bought 2 of the Almay eyeliner duo.). (:

A couple of weeks back, I had a 10% discount code from ASOS so I got myself 2 items; ASOS Kitsch Pow Enamelled Skinny Cuff and ASOS Heart Sheer Tights, to replace the old one which I tore.

This ASOS loot was £12.80, after discount. (:

My sis brought me to The Better Gift Store. It's a level up from Kinokuniya. Take the escalator from the entrance inside (Not the main one.), turn left and it's right at the end, opposite Art Friend. The store sells stationery and toys.

Each set was $8.90. Every second item entitles you to a 20% discount (Off the cheaper item.). I'm not sure when this promotion will end though. :\

All these magnets will go up on my board. I usually write my notes on paper and stick them onto my board, instead of writing them directly onto the board itself so that things are cleaner.

The above clips have magnets stuck behind them and they cost $7.90. In total, I spent $31.24 at that shop. The receipt gladly informed me that I saved $3.36! Lol!

I got this baroque photo frame from Typo for $12. I got myself some wooden letters too. The black and white ones were going at 3 for $10. My sis and I spent a pretty long time there and I think I'm gonna save up for a huge-ass poster (Around $50.) to hang up in my room. :D

And finally, books! Kinokuniya had a 20% discount for card members so these 3 cost me a little below 50 bucks. I haven't got a job this summer (And am not sure if I want to have one.) so these are going to keep me occupied for a while. (:

(I realized that the original fairy tales aren't as pretty as the altered ones. )': )

"Those awful things are survivable, because we are indestructible as we believe ourselves to be. When adults say, "Teenagers think they are invincible" with that sly, stupid smile on their faces, they don't know how right they are. We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. Like all energy, we can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. They forget that when they are old. They get scared of losing and failing. But that part of us greater than the sum of our parts cannot begin and cannot end, and so it cannot fail."

REVIEW: Go to the smooth side...with Strip!

(Please view this entry in Internet Explorer to watch the animation! I have no idea why it isn't working in Firefox. Please let me know if it's working on your browser so I can decide if I want to make animated graphics next time. Thanks! And I know the above isn't grammatically correct! But it would be too weird to insert an 'n'. Heh.)

Last Friday, I was invited by Strip to try out their new Strawberry Wax at their new Raffles City Outlet. I thought it was the one beside Browhaus on the basement level but it wasn't. It's located behind the Guess boutique, so the entrance is actually facing the outside of the building.

Anyway, I was feeling a little jittery. Not because of the pain but you know... Nether regions, someone's gonna be seeing it... Haha. Tiphanie who had hers done one Monday was trying to calm my nerves on Twitter! Haha. Thanks sweets! :D

The RC outlet was dressed in bold colours, making the whole place look fun! I thought it looked a lot brighter than the Suntec outlet but I have never stepped into the latter (Just stood outside and wondered what it was like inside. Heh.). The ladies greeted me with wide, friendly smiles, which certainly helped to calm nerve. I was brought to Michelle, Strip's PR Assistant, and she gave me a rundown on the Strawberry Wax and the whole process.

Strip has got 3 waxes; Lavender, Chocolate and Strawberry. They are always working on their waxes, making them more efficient, effective and less painful. The Lavender Wax is a soft wax, whereas the Chocolate and the Strawberry ones are hard waxes. The difference between how the two types of waxes lies in the way they dry on the skin. Hard wax is gentler and are used for waxing sensitive areas whereas soft wax is used for larger body parts with fine hair, such as the chest and stomach. Soft wax binds and pulls hair more forcefully than the hard one (Information from Michelle and here.)

The Strawberry Wax was developed for first time Brazilian virgins. It contains Aloe Vera and Chamomile, 2 ingredients which are known for their healing and soothing properties. And yes, the Strawberry Wax looks exactly like the Yam Yam Strawberry dips! The softness of the wax is allows for easy application. Only a thin layer of it is needed, so it dries quickly and evenly. All these help to reduce the pain and discomfort. Strip's 'motto' is 'Hygiene, Speed, Quality.' so the whole process lasts no longer than 15 minutes.

Every customer will be given a Hygiene Pack of a wipe and spatulas. The packet of wipe is for cleaning before the Brazilian begins. For each dip into the pot of wax, a new spatula will be used to ensure that there is zero contamination.

And yes, most of my photos turned out really crappy that day! I don't know if it was the camera or me but the photos were mostly out-of-focus. ): (I took some photos yesterday and they were fine... So I guess it was me. :\ )

Next, I was introduced to KT, my therapist. I was given a few drops of the Bach Flower Essence under my tongue to calm my nerves. Warm wax was applied to the nether regions and then, off with the hair! KT talked to me throughout the entire process and yeah... I actually felt nothing at all. Even after that, I didn't feel any soreness or anything like that. Haha. And no, I'm not trying to be brave or anything like that. It was seriously nothing to me. But please don't take my word for it. I must have some incredible threshold for pain or something (I think piercing's more painful than this.). I told Ju Ann that it wasn't the least bit painful but after she did hers, she tweeted that it was very, very painful! I think if you have done epilation before, then this will actually be okay for you. (:

Throughout the whole process, you're in a frog-legged position, which was actually a little embarrassing since the light was directly above. But after a while, I was chatting animatedly with KT and kind of forgot about it. Besides, like KT said, I won't ever be seeing her again! Unless I go back... Haha. After each removal of the wax strip, KT used her palm (She was wearing gloves.) to press on the skin. This was to 'calm' the skin. During our chit-chat session, one thing which I thought was good to note was that pantyliners actually thin the skin by absorbing the skin's moisture. They should only be worn when necessary.

Before I left, I was presented with my Brazilian Virgin Kit! Inside contained Hershey's kisses, Strip's Yam Yam Biscuits, Chupa Chups lollipops and samples of Strip's after-care products. (:

X'ed Out Cream: Treats and prevents ingrown hair.
Ice Cream: Soothes and rejuvenates the skin.
Strawberry Body Scrub: Exfoliates the skin.
Strawberry Body Butter: Moisturizes the skin.

Peace was applied right after the Brazilian Wax was done. This helps to inhibits hair growth. Note that the X'ed Out Cream is to be applied in the direction against the hair so that it is easily absorbed into the skin. (:

And here's a little Q&A!

What is a Brazilian Wax?
It's the removal of all hair, both front and back. Yes, EVERYTHING!

Why should I go for one?
Okay, I went for one because well, I wanted to try it and see how painful it really was. Haha. But I think that it's also hygienic to well, clear the bush.

What is the dress code?
I wore a skirt on that day. There are no stipulations about dressing but I would suggest you to wear cotton and absolutely no tight bottoms. You don't want to be aggravating your skin after waxing!

How long does the Brazilian Wax take?
15-30 minutes!

How often can I go for one?
3 to 6 weeks, when the hair length is 6mm.

I'm a guy...
Strip has got the Boyzilian. (:

Currently, Strip is having a promotion for Brazilian Virgins! You ladies get 30% off your first Brazilian Wax (U.P. $58) and get to purchase the Brazilian Virgin Kit at just $15 (U.P. $25) (All prices listed are before GST.). (:

Thanks for reading! And if you have got any questions, just leave a comment or drop me an email! (:

REVIEW: Ginvera Green Tea's Aqua Whitening Cream and Green Tea Nude Cover BB Cream SPF 30/ PA++

Earlier this month, The Sample Store sent me Ginvera Green Tea's latest family members; Aqua Whitening Cream (with Oil Control) and Nude Cover BB Cream SPF 30/ PA++ for review. (:

Product: Aqua Whitening Cream (with Oil Control)
Key Ingredients: Green Tea essence, Thanaka extracts and Biogel
Directions: Squeeze out what you need (2 peas-sized will be fine!) and apply after cleansing and toning!
Cost: $16.90

They say: The Aqua Whitening Cream whitens and lightens scars, provides UV protection and oil control and prevents those darned zits from appearing. On top of that, the cream also hydrates the skin, giving you the much coveted radiant glow!

I say:
I have to say this first; the cream smells OH-SO-HEAVENLY!!! I'm a huge fan of green tea (Anything green tea, giveittome!) so whenever I squeeze the cream out from the tube and the scent hits me... (Cue: Romantic music.) I'm unconditionally and irrevocably in LOVE (Quote: A certain sappy vampire story.)! Hee!

The cream comes out rather thick but absorbs into the skin real easily. It is lightweight, though I do find that it's a tad heavy for usage in the day. But do note that I am quite fussy, grease up rather quickly and do find most day creams heavy for me. Hence, oil control-wise, I'm giving it a thumbs down. I don't really see any mattifying effect here. The cream is definitely very hydrating. Dry skin people, cheer!

There is an immediate whitening effect upon application but I haven't used it long enough to gauge if the whitening effect is here to stay. All in all, I think this is a good product, especially for people with dry skin. (: And did I mention that I LOVE the smell?!? Hee (I know I did.).

Product: Nude Cover BB Cream SPF 30/ PA++
Key Ingredients: Green Tea extracts (Rich source of anti-oxidants.), Allantoin (A cell-proliferating healing agent which stimulates healthy tissue formation.), Hyaluronic Acid (For hydration.), Ginseng and Angelica (For nourishment and hydration of skin.)
Directions: Apply after your skincare regime. Squeeze a pea-sized amount, dab it all over your face and tap it in.
Cost: $16.90

They say: The Nude Cover BB Cream has a light, velvety non-greasy texture which provides a natural, flawless and radiant coverage. It has a nano-fine texture which allows the BB cream to spread easily, concealing pores, imperfections and evening out skin tone. Formulated with SPF 30/ PA++, it helps protect the skin from the sun, preventing premature ageing, wrinkles and fine lines!

I say:
I'm all for B.B. creams (My Kate foundation is currently lying in the thickest layer of dust possible.) and especially for one that has such an awesome green tea scent! :DDD

The B.B. cream comes out rather runny, much unlike other B.B. creams which I have used. This kind of makes a mess out of the packaging *points above*. But surprisingly, it being runny doesn't equate to it giving light coverage or you needing more than your usual amount. The cream applies like a second skin, very lightweight and comfortable. It actually provides a heavier coverage than the typical B.B. cream and leaves no grey cast.

However, I do find the shade a tad too dark for me. This is really an in-my-opinion kind of thing because I like to look fair. It's also really my only gripe about this product. It covers my pores and redness perfectly, to give me a smooth and almost-perfect (Just because nothing is perfect! ;) ) canvas for makeup!

Look at how seamlessly (Minus the colour.) it blends into the skin! It doesn't look at all like I have applied anything on my arm. Just that I have a very weird tan... Hmmm. Haha.

One very noticeable thing about the cream is the incredible hydration that it provides. It doesn't verge on the my-face-is-going-to-turn-into-a-oil-bath feeling. As aforementioned, it's very lightweight... I don't know how the product does it, really. The other B.B. creams which I have tried... If they were hydrating, I was positive that my face was going to turn into a mush of oil. If they didn't make me feel like a total grease ball, then they weren't hydrating at all. So the verdict? I really, really love this product! My only wish is that it was a tad lighter. ):

Before I go back to the books (BIG SIGH.), you can get samples of these products here or here! Let me know your verdicts! :D

EVENT: Vichy's Normaderm Workshop

Last Thursday, I attended Vichy's Normaderm Workshop at House @ Dempsey. It was my first time at Dempsey and I was excited because my cousin's forever tweeting that he's hanging out with his friends there. The whole place, though remote, is like a small classy food village. And I spotted Chen Hanwei, a local Chinese actor, getting into his car (Cheap thrill, I know.).

The workshop was an introduction to their new and improved Normaderm Tri-Activ Imperfection Care. Hailed as the 'most complete popular medical care', Normaderm promises to get rid of imperfections, mattify and provide 24-hour hydration.

Healthy skin doesn't just equate to getting rid of the imperfections. The skin also needs to be

Mattified: Excess sebum can be oxidised by UV rays, resulting in irritation, redness and more imperfections.
Hydrated: Dehydrated skin results in an accumulation of dead skin cells and this causes more imperfections.

The Tri-Activ Imperfection Care is inspired by dermatological peels. The latter involves the peeling and regenerating of the entire surface of the epidermis (the outer layer of skin). This product is the first to have a combination of 3 dermatological peeling active ingredients to target all the layers of the epidermis. They are

Lipo-Hydroxy Acid (0.14%):Exfoliates the surface, refines and soothes the skin and evens out skin texture.
Salicylic Acid (0.5%): Unclogs pores by loosening the cells accumulated in the sebum duct and provides anti-inflammatory action.
Glycolic Acid (0.175%): Works deep-down by penetrating into the skin for exfoliation, stimulates cellular renewal and provides anti-bactierial action.

The product also contains a new generation of gelling agents. There is a 2% increase in glycerin to provide round-the-clock hydration. Silica is also present to absorb sebum.

Above's a photo of the old and new bottles. Both are 50ml but the old one costs $49 while the new one is at a lower, friendlier price of $39. It also comes in a smaller 30ml version that costs $19. The new ones happened because Vichy received feedback that their products were on the high-end, especially for the students. Vichy listens! :D (If you do the Math, it's actually more worthwhile to get 2 30ml tubes than a single bottle!)

I got my first touch of it at the workshop and it smells so much like cucumbers! It has such a fresh and clean scent and it made my hand velvet-soft! I have begun using the product and will review it soon. (:

After the presentation, we had a buffet of treats! I had my first taste of lamb and tuna and... They were interesting! Haha. I actually like the tuna, just not the canned, mashed-up one. And oh! Meet Felicia, the girl who's in the center photo with me! She's my junior college classmate and close bud!

And here's a snapshot of my outfit!

Lastly, thank you Vichy and Pearlin for the invitation! :D And thank YOU for reading! :DDD

SWATCHES: CoverGirl's Eye Enhancers 270, Crystal Waters

My cousin got this for me last December. I LOVE CoverGirl's mascaras so I was thinking that their palettes would totally rock my world too. But as with some expectations... BIG SIGH.

Crystal Waters comes in a 0.19oz palm-sized palette. The 4 colours; pale blue, seafoam green, teal and dark blue, are meant to carry your eye look from day to night.

Sadly, the colours are chalky and not pigmented. ): I haven't used them on my eyes though, so they may be a whole different story altogether with a primer under. *crosses fingers*

Have you played with any of CoverGirl's eyeshadows? Like them or not? (:
