MAIL: SK-II's His & Hers Set

I know Christmas has come and gone for a pretty long while now (And 2013 is just a few hours away!). But I thought I share the gift I received from the ladies at DeVries Global and SK-II anyway. (: Thank you so much for the lovely surprise, ladies! :DDD

The His & Her set contains the main essentials of the SK-II skincare regimen.

For the lady
Step 1: Facial Treatment Gentle Cleanser
This cleanser cares and cleanses the skin with its formula of Concentrated Pitera and Mild Treatment Essence. It works into a fine-textured lather and leaves your skin hydrated, even after 30 minutes of your cleansing.

Step 2: Facial Treatment Mask
This Pitera-filled mask deeply hydrates your skin, leaving it radiant and crystal clear.

Step 3: Facial Treatment Essence
Also known as the 'miracle water', this essence contains more than 90% Pitera. It helps maintain your skin's renewal cycle and is a must-have for radiant and crystal clear skin. This also helps to balance your skin's pH and regulate sebum production so that oily and dry areas are moisturized properly.

For the gentleman
Step 1: SK-II Men Moisturizing Cleanser
This cleanser works into fine-lather texture and helps purify your skin and pores from dirt with its Pitera formula. It leaves your skin feeling fresh and comforable.

Step 2: SK-II Men Facial Treatment Essence
In just 14 days, see a transformation to crystal clear skin with this fragrance-free and colorant-free essence.

Step 3: SK-II Men Age Revitalize Moisturizer
This anti-ageing moisturizer contains Pitera and Oat-Pea Complex. It moisturizes your skin, maintains its elasticity and reduces the appearance of your pores.

SK-II's festive sets are still available at SK-II counters, Sephora and on Zalora (Yes! You can get SK-II delivered right to your doorsteps now! Click here to see Zalora's offerings. :D). (:

RAMBLINGS: When everything goes wrong.

I think that when you truly love someone, you don't punish him or do things out of spite during trying times. How you react is a testament of your 'love'.

And it's sad that adults can't see that.

EVENT: Natural Treat's DIY Facial Workshop

On December 8th, I made a trip down to The Old Thong Chai Medical Institution for Natural Treat's DIY Facial Workshop. This was a day after my exams and my skin certainly needed some TLC. Very badly. So I was really eager to pick up some skin care tips that I can easily replicate at home. (:

Natural Treat is a skincare and wellness company that hopes to bring more awareness to us, where our body and skin are concerned. Together with Academy of Professional Aestheticians (APAes), they frequently hold workshops on facials and skincare. The DIY Facial Workshop is one of them. Conducted in both English and Mandarin, it is held once a month and has a maximum of 30 people. Smaller workshops of 8 people are held at the People's Park Centre.

Each person was given his or her own mirror, a hairband, a basin of water (Which was frequently replaced.) and a facial sponge (Which is for yours to keep.).

The lady in white in the first photo was the facial therapist. For each step, she did it on her model and then, gave us time to do it on ourselves. Don't worry that you might not be able to catch up or anything like that because standing around us, were many helpers. (:

The products used were from Forever Living, whose products are made primarily from organic Aloe Vera. This American company is the world's largest Aloe Vera grower, manufacturer and distributor and has 34 years of history, with presence in 150 countries. The particular species of Aloe Vera that Forever Living grows is the Aloe Barbadensis Miller. This is the most potent species and it is listed at the top of the ingredient list (This means it has the greatest content.).

The DIY Facial consists of 7 steps:

Step 1: Aloe Eye Makeup Remover
This soft, gentle, alcohol-free and oil-free makeup remover removes all makeup and dirt. Pour some of this onto a piece of cotton pad and swipe it upwards, across the length of your face. Repeat until the cotton pad is clean.

Step 2: Exfoliating Cleanser
This gentle formula exfoliates and cleanses your skin thoroughly, removing all traces of makeup and dirt.

Step 3: Aloe Liquid Soap
This is a rich, luxurious, pH-balanced hand and face cleanser. It cleans without causing irritation and leaves skin feeling smooth and silky.

Step 4: Aloe Scrub
This scrub contains small Jojoba beads that are gentle, mild and do not harm the skin. It can be used daily to remove dull dead skin cells and dirt and promote cell renewal, leaving your skin fair, smooth and with a natural glow.

Step 5/6: Aloe Activator and Facial Contour Mask
This duo cleanses pores, removes blackheads and white heads and tightens your skin. At the same time, it also helps to nourish and condition your skin, providing in-depth treatment and cell regeneration.

Step 7: Rehydrating Toner
This toner contains Witch Hazel that helps with the tightening of pores. It also regulates and stabilizes your skin, whilst lightening it.

Step 8: Aloe Vera Gelly
This gelly moisturizes and nourishes your skin. At the same time, it also helps with cell regeneration and the increment of skin collagen. It can be used to relieve itching and minor skin woes.

Step 9: Firming Foundation Lotion
This lightweight lotion has SPF 15 and helps to tighten and refine pores and prevent the formation of wrinkles and lines.

The most interesting step for me was when we used the Aloe Activator and Facial Contour Mask. When those two are mixed together, they became a paste. As it dried up, it tightened my pores and gave me a temporary face lift (Apply the paste with a brush in the directions shown above!). At the same time, it also helped to remove blackheads!

Here's a shot of me doing a DIY pore pack with the Aloe Activator and Facial Contour Mask!

This Aloe Propolis Creme is a godsend for sensitive skin. Before applying the mask, I applied a thin layer of this to help calm and prep my skin. I applied this after the mask too. (:

Here, I'm soaking in the goodness of the Rehydrating Toner!

This is the entire range of products that I used at the workshop. (:

Pretty Juliana was at the workshop too. (: Was really glad to have such friendly company! :DDD

(On a side note, look at just how tired I was! My eye bags had eye bags! :\)

After the event, I had a chat with Jenni, co-founder of Natural Treat, and she brought me through some demonstrations. In the first demonstration, a piece of instant noodles was tinted with iodine. It was then placed first in water, then in a generic brand of Aloe Vera juice and finally, in Forever Living's Aloe Vera juice.

As seen in the last photo, the instant noodles returned to its pristine condition only after dipping into Forever Living's Aloe Vera juice because it is 100% stabilized Aloe Vera, completely pure and not diluted.

The second demonstration involved Forever Living's Forever Arctic-Sea and Omega 3 from a generic brand. The little Styrofoam bits acted as fats and they only disintegrated in the cup with Forever Living's Forever Arctic-Sea.

For those who are interested in the DIY Facial Workshop, the next one will be held on January 12th. Each ticket to the workshop is $20 and if you bring 3 friends to the workshop, the 3rd friend gets a free ticket. You can register for the workshop or find out more about it by dropping Jenni an email at web.naturaltreat@ymail.com or contact her at 94552826. Alternatively, you can also check out Natural Treat's website here. (:

REVIEW: Sunplay's Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk

For the month of December, I have been slathering Sunplay's Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk. Thank you, Elfaine, for sending this to me! (: The latest addition to the Sunplay family contains the new Solarex-3 technology. It involves a 3-in-1 UV defense system:

1. Long Lasting, Superior UV Protection: Provides superior photo stable protection against broad spectrum UVA and UVB.
2. UV Anti-Aging Protection: Contains 2 anti-aging ingredients, RonaCare Ectoin and Antileukine 6, which help to prevent pigmentation and wrinkles from surface to deep within.
3. Intense Hydration (Dryness Protection): Contains Super Hyaluronic Acid, Collagin and Pro-Vitamin B.

With a SPF 50 PA+++, this sunscreen is going to shield you for long hours under the sun. And it doesn't just stop here! The sunscreen also contains Super Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen and Pro Vitamin B. Super Hyaluronic Acid will keep our skin hydrated, soft and supple, while the other 2 will improve our skin's elasticity and reduce fine lines.

The sunscreen is waterproof, sweat-proof, contains no colorants and can be used as a makeup base.

After applying my moisturizer, I apply a thin layer of the sunscreen on my face. Do remember to give the bottle a good shake first! At the end of the day, I remove it with Bioderma's Créaline H2O.

Having tried Sunplay's products before and liking them (Click here to read!), I was looking forward to trying this new one. And Sunplay didn't disappoint! Lightweight and watery, this sinks into the skin easily and feels very comfortable. I like that it's moisturizing, though I don't suggest you skip the moisturizer before applying this. There is no greasy-feeling and no white cast. It leaves my skin feeling smooth and semi-matte, aiding the application of my foundation. I haven't encountered any irritation with this but do note that this contains silicones.

Sunplay's Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk is a fuss-free suncreen. Besides protecting you from harmful rays, it also hydrates your skin and keep wrinkles at bay. This will make a perfect companion for those who are looking for some simple and easy protection from the sun. (: It can be found in Watsons, Guardian, Sasa, Unity and other major department stores.

REVIEW: My VMVery Favorite Things

Christmas is just a mere 4 days away! Can you believe it?!? The air is getting real thick with the festive spirit and I hope you are as excited as I am! (: On Monday, I received my first Christmas gift, My VMVery Favorite Things, from Jemimah and VMV Hypoallergenics. Thank you, ladies! :D

My VMV Hypoallergenics frenzy started out with the Illuminants Brilliant Finish (SPF) 25 Powder Foundation, which I have been using since I bought it. This led to a subsequent massive haul on Black Friday. Heh. You can click here and here to learn more about the brand, the products I bought, my gushing and be, well, tempted! Hehe. Anyway, back to my Christmas gift!

My VMVery Favorite Things ($50) is one of the 4 holiday kits VMV Hypoallergenics has prepared for us! This kit contains 7 of the brand's all-time favourite products, perfect for VMV Hypoallergenics junkies, like me. Heh. These products will pamper us from head to toe, and keep our skin in tip-top condition!

Here are the 7 items and they are in travel sizes (VMVery perfect for my upcoming Taiwan trip!):

(clockwise from the top)
Armada Sport 70
Essence Skin-Saving Superwash Hair and Body Milk Shampoo
Id Sweat Acne and Overall Anti-Bacterial Gel
Re-Everything Face-Hand-Body Lotion
SuperSkin Care: Creammmy-Rich Intensive Moisture Milk for Dry Skin
Know-It-Oil Clinically-Validated Virgin Coconut Oil
Grandma Minnie's Mommycoddling All-Over Lotion

Re-Everything Face-Hand-Body Lotion (30ml)
Head-to-toe anti-aging glow!
This is an all-over gentle exfoliating lotion. With a concoction of unbuffered glycolic acid, kinetin growth factor, hydrating glycerin, green tea, rice phytic acid (Made up of 3 potent antioxidants.), this lotion is going to renew, regenerate, rebuild, revitalize... Re-everything! It provides gentle microdermabrasion, by renewing and regenerating our skin cells. At the same time, it also keeps lines and wrinkles at bay! Expect a 'post-peel glow' with smoother and firmer skin!

SuperSkin Care: Creammmy-Rich Intensive Moisture Milk for Dry Skin (30ml)
A creammmy, extra-rich, lubricating skin 'milk'.
This skindulgent 'butter' is a bit of a whizz-kid. It soothes and hydrates more intensively where your skin needs it the most, with virgin coconut oil and glycerin. It also contains coconut-derived monolaurin, which is a gentle and natural antibacterial. Hello A grade!

Know-It-Oil Clinically-Validated Virgin Coconut Oil (50ml)
This 'mirac-oil' is an incomparable moisturizer with fatty acids native to skin. A 'skinside-out' essential.
This bottle contains 100% organic virgin coconut oil. Cold-1st-pressed, USDA-certified organic, this pure coconut oil is rich with fatty acids that are native to our skin. It helps replace lost lipids, repair damage, improve oil wall saturation and reduce inflammation.

I apply just a little of this on my face after showers and under my moisturizer and makeup. It sinks into my skin quickly and easily, leaving no greasy after-feeling, and helps keep my skin moisturized. My skin has been pretty dry lately due to a bad encounter but is on its way to a pretty speedy recovery. One tip, when dealing with facial oils, is to really massage the oil into your skin and not let it sit on your skin!

Armada Sport 70 (15g)
A wait-in-line-for-it favourite for its skincredibly lightweight feel + powerful protection even in extreme outdoor conditions.
This lightweight, full-spectrum sun screen can be used both on the face and body and is water resistant. It has clinically proven PFAs and SPFs as high as 70-90. Creating a 'barrier-film', which acts like a second skin, it screens out UVA and UVB rays, providing protection against skin cancer, photoaging and hyperpigmentation.

Grandma Minnie's Mommycoddling All-Over Lotion (75ml)
A sublimely nourishing head-to-toe favourite of babes of all ages.
This lotion is filled with USDA-certified organic virgin coconut oil goodness. It is a rich source of fatty acids, that are native to our skin. It also contains coconut-derived monolaurin, provides a painless, gentle-yet-potent antibacterial disinfection. This is perfect for our little ones and for moms-to-be!

I started using it a few nights ago and I find it very lightweight and moisturizing. It seems to provide just the right amount of moisture that my skin needs. There is no greasy after-feeling and my skin feels very comfortable. One thing though, I don't quite appreciate the packaging. The bottle is pretty hard, so you can't squeeze it to get the lotion out. At the same time, it is also difficult to shake/ pour the lotion out of the bottle. The full-sized bottle comes with a pump so that will make dispensing a lot easier!

Id Sweat Acne and Overall Anti-Bacterial Gel (50ml)
Our multi-tasking maestro. Keeps skin cool, fresh + matte. Manages face + body bumps. Great as a hand gel, too!
One of VMV Hypoallergenics' many star products, this mattifies and kills acne AND sweat acne. It contains the coconut-derived monoglyceride that provides anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-protozoal treatment. As mentioned in my earlier entry, this product caught my eye (And stole my heart.) because it addresses acne caused by sweat fungus.

I have been using the gel both as a mattifier and as a spot annihilator. As a mattifier, I apply it primarily on my nose and it keeps me pretty much shine-free all day long. I find that it also helps treat my little bed of blackheads (On my nose.). If you are applying it under makeup, be sure to apply just a thin layer and to massage the gel into your skin before it dries up. As a spot annihilator, this dried up a huge acne at the start of my left eyebrow in 4 days, reduced redness and left no scar. It took about 2-3 days to dry up normal spots and the post inflammatory hyperpigmentation left behind was very light and disappeared quickly. (:

Essence Skin-Saving Superwash Hair and Body Milk Shampoo (50ml)
A unique gentle, non-drying bath experience. Over 20 years of popularity.
This creamy-soft and gentle shampoo cleans our scalp, hair and body. It has an anti-residue formula that cleans without clogging pores and helps to calm acne and rashes.

If you have been reading my blog, you may have noticed that I don't splurge on body washes because I think a simple one suffices and that all body washes are really the same. You may also know that I have eczema on my back and in the valley of my right arm. After showers, these areas usually itch until I apply creams on them. When I used this wash for the first time, I noticed that my afflicted areas didn't itch a tiny bit and I didn't need to apply any creams. I don't think this will eradicate eczema completely but it helps make things more bearable.

VMV Hypoallergenics has also prepared a kit for the leading men in our lives. I got the For All Ye Merry Gentlemen ($38) for the brother! He is at that age when acne is your best friendfiend so I'm really hoping that the Red Better Spot Corrector works for him!

Here are the items inside the kit:

(from left to right)
Super Skin Care: Creammmy Rich Intensive Moisture Milk for Dry Skin
Armada Sport SPF 70
Id Sweat Acne and Overall Anti-Bacterial Gel
Red Better Spot Corrector (Full-sized)

(Psst! This kit is really worth it because the Red Better Spot Corrector alone costs $35.)

The other 2 kits that VMV Hypoallergenics have prepared are the Creams de la Crème (2nd from the left) and the Mistle-Glow (4th from the left).

Creams de la Crème ($32)
Contains Re-Everything Face-Hand-Body Lotion, Creammmy-Rich Intensive Moisture Milk and Essence Skin-Saving Hand + Body Smoother.
This is a collection of VMV Hypoallergenics' mmmost popular mmmoisturizers, that are jam-packed with rich and lasting moisturizing protection! This will definitely served us well, especially when we enveloped in cold artificial air everywhere we go!

Mistle-Glow ($50)
Contains Skintelligent Beauty Glitz Lipstick and Ooh-La-Lash! Volumizing Mascara.
This kit is perfect for the makeup lovers! It provides the tools to open your peepers and keep your lips moisturized and glitzy enough for both casual outings and parties! Good things have been said about the duo online, especially the mascara, so do check this kit out!
-

Whoa! This has been a mighty long entry but I do hope it has been helpful (And enjoyable.)! VMV Hypoallergenics is also giving you a hand-stitched felt stocking ornament with every purchase of a holiday kit. (: If you have an questions, feel free to leave a comment or drop me an email. In the meantime, you can check out VMV Hypoallergenics on Facebook here or visit the store in ION Orchard, #B3-48. (: Till then, as VMV Hypoallergenics would say, Happy Holi'dews'!

EVENT: Amorepacific Corporation's Gala Dinner

On December 4th, Amorepacific (South East Asia) held its very first gala dinner at St. Regis Hotel. Thank you, Vivian from Etude House Singapore, for the invitation! (:

Established in 1945, Amorepacific is the largest beauty company in South Korean, with more than 30 premium beauty brands under it. These brands include our much loved Laneíge, Sulwhasoo and Etude House. The gala was an introduction to Amorepacific and it also celebrated the comprehensive collection of Korea's top skincare and cosmetic brands under the brand.

Here's my outfit for the dinner, which the sister lent me. Thanks Cher! Love the leopard prints on the top and the mesh overlay at the bottom! And St.Regis was so gorgeous and even more so with the Christmas decorations!

Fel, Elva (Another Etude House's Pink Bird, whom I met during the Korea trip!) and I spent quite a while taking outfit photos here... Trying to get the perfect background, perfect lighting etc. Haha.

And here's Fel and I! :D Was so glad to have my JC friend and fellow Pink Bird with me! :DDD

Right outside the entrance of the ballrooms, stood tall and gorgeous Korean models! They were holding on to Sulwhasoo products. This is one brand that I really would like to try but umm... Maybe when I have started work. Heh. The products have a strong ginseng scent, which I totally love! I used to bring small ginseng pieces to school so that I could snack on them when classes got boring.

And here's the massive ballroom, bathed in icy and winter-y blue lights!

The list of cosmetics brands under Amorepacific! Hera is a brand which I discovered during my trip to Korea. The brand has a B.B. cushion thing that works very much like Laneíge's Snow BB Soothing Cushion. And whenever I wear it, M will compliment me on my glowing Korean-like skin! :D

Besides cosmetics, Amorepacific is also involved in personal care and health care.

Half-Korean Stephanie Carrington and Amorepacific (Korea)'s Raymond were the hosts for the night. We enjoyed beautiful traditional Korean performances. The dancers and musicians flew all the way from Korea to our island just for this gala dinner!

Dinner was a sumptuous four-course meal! And oh yes, I shared a table with lovely Charlotte, another Pink Bird. We had a lovely time chatting about beauty, telly shows and life!

The obligatory shot in the loo with Fel! Haha.

At the end of the gala dinner, we were given photos taken by the official photographer. And each was encased in a transparent Amorepacific frame. (: (Charlotte's in the top photo! Does she look like she just gave birth to you?!? I so could not tell!)

I really had a lovely night and it's definitely on my list of top 10 highlights of 2012. Thanks so much again, Vivian and Etude House Singapore, for the invitation! Thank you, Amorepacific, for the wonderful dinner! And big hugs to Fel, Elva, Charlotte and Shirleen who kept me company! (:

The Sparkling Holic look in this month's Etude House's Pink Box is bold, strong and exudes confidence. And so, the nails are a lot more vibrant than the Romantic Holiday's ones (Click here to view the nails for the latter!).

The Romantic Holiday look is all about being sweet so the colours used are more feminine (Think: Pink and silver.). For this set of nails, I'm using Etude House's Christmas Miracle Nails set in #02 Holiday Miracle. This set contains a trio of nail polishes:

#02-1 Pink Pearl Syrup: A peachy-pink with shimmers that reflect the colour of light.

SPOTTED: SK-II's Empower Me Campaign - The New (Christmas) Black

This Christmas, charity is the new black! SK-II will be spreading the Christmas cheer all the way into January 2013 with a series of 'The Empowerment Effect' Workshops. These workshops will equip women with skills that will help transform their lives for the better. Below is an extract from the press kit. (:

We often hear about gifts for that special someone, whether it is for a sister, daughter, mother, aunt, or grandmother. But are you forgetting the other women at-risk who are more often than not, often sidelined during the noise of Christmas? Meet the women (more than 65% of them) who are employed in vulnerable jobs, women who account for nearly two-thirds of the 776 million illiterate adults in the world, or work who work two-thirds of the world's working hours but only earn 10% of the world's income.

This Christmas, you have a chance to make charity the new black and bring the hidden stories of women at-risk to the foreground. Forget the gifts that come all wrapped up in tinsel and gold. Reach for the gifts that are intricately intertwined with a worthy cause. Such as SK-II's first-ever Empower Me campaign in collaboration with UN Women Singapore and established image consultancy, Image Flair, dedicated to bring the gift of empowerment to young at-risk women by equipping them with social knowledge and enhanced image styling skills to secure better employment opportunities and career advancement. Through a S$10,000 donation, SK-II will be funding a series of 'The Empowerment Effect' Workshops in January, designed to empower women at-risk with essential life skills, inspiring them to be agents of change to transform themselves, their families and communities at large.

Looking to make a difference? Look no further with SK-II!

REVIEW: Eucerin's AQUAporin ACTIVE Moisturizing Cream Light

After my La Roche-Posay's Toleraine Fluid bit the dust, I started on Eucerin's AQUAporin ACTIVE Moisturizing Cream Light. The light version of this moisturizing cream is made for normal to combination skin. Formulated with nature-identical Gluco-Glycerol, this cream supports our skin's own aquaporin network for an optimal moisture distribution, penetrating deep into our epidermal skin layers.

The 140ml of cream is packaged in a slim tube, making this pretty handy. It comes out white and opaque and turns into a water-like substance as you rub it into your skin. The scent is pleasant, though it is a tad too strong for my liking.

Unfortunately, this cream didn't work for me. It started out as a pretty okay moisturizer but after a week, I realized that my skin was actually drying out! And I was expecting a lot from it, after reading some really good reviews online. ): It could be that I haven't really been sleeping well... But then again, it shouldn't be drying my skin out like that. :\ Anyway, I have since switched to Jorubi's Aloe Vera Gel, hoping that it will balance out my skin soon. *fingers crossed*

EVENT: KissJane's Opening at VivoCity!

A while back, Fel brought me as her plus one for KissJane's opening at VivoCity. Thanks Fel! :D KissJane is a place where some online blogshops take their businesses offline... Perfect for those who never quite know their sizes or don't believe in online shopping!

Racks and racks of clothes! A shopaholic's haven, no? There are brands like Little Red Heels, Momo Teapots and my all-time favourite Lily Pirates! :DDD

And of course, every girl must have her perfect pair of shoes... Or rather, perfect pairs!

Here's pretty Feliza, whom I met at a previous event!

The 3 happy musketeers with our purchases in bright yellow KissJane bags! I bought a brightly-coloured bandage skirt with an aztec pattern. Fel bought a pair of floral shorts and Feliza bought several pieces! Haha!

After the event, the 3 of us headed down to town for some good ol' steamboat at Coca, swapped ghost stories and then, had our skins checked at the SK-II counter. It was a really fun afternoon/ evening! Thanks ladies for the company and thanks Fel, for asking me along! :DDD
